Planes (Chunky Board Book)13 reviews
Byron Barton

HarperFestival, 1994

Fun fun fun
My son has had this book since he was two and it was his favorite until he discovered longer stories. He had memorized most of this book. The pictures are bright and lovely, and the sequence is perfect. Highly recommend this for a toddler!

Building a House8 reviews
Byron Barton

A Trumpet Club Special Edition, 1992

A great way to build a house
We are currently building a house so this book has been the perfect companion to this process. My little boy (two and a half) is able to make connections to the pictures in the book to what is going on in 'real life' with his house. If you are building a house and have a small child, I highly recommend this book.

Boats (Chunky Board Book)8 reviews
Byron Barton

Harperfestival, 1994

All aboard Barton's "Boats"
"Boats," by Byron Barton, is a good book for beginning readers. Like others by this author, the book combines simple text with illustrations in Barton's trademark style: bright, solid colors and simplified, almost iconic figures. Barton depicts a rowboat, sailboat, fire department boat, ferry, cruise ship, and other vessels. The boats are actually shown in action. A nice touch is that the ...

Byron Barton

T.Y. Crowell Junior Books, 1986

Barton books are a favorite with my grandson.
I was a teacher in early childhood and I love to find new books for my grandson, who is almost 3. At the early level they need simple books both in text and pictures. The Barton books have a very simple text and great pictures and my grandson loves all of them. I always let him choose what books to read and Barton is his favorite since he was 1 1/2. I would recommend all of his books for young ...

Awesome Book for Toddlers Who Love Trucks
Review by Sherry North, Author, Because You Are My Baby When my son was 2, he could not get enough of this book - he asked for it every day and even carried it with him in the car. Of the many truck books for young boys, this one is especially appealing for a few reasons: -Simple, bold illustrations are easy to look at. -Just one sentence per page makes the book great for short attention ...

Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs9 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1993

Bright, fun introduction!
What a fun introduction to the world of dinosaurs! And yet with plenty of information to challenge the most avid dinosaur fans--in fact, this is a handy resource for anyone. If nothing else, Barton's crayon-box colors are addicting.

Airport19 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1987

We love this book!
This book is great to prepare for a trip on an airplane. We were getting ready to move to Australia and this book along with the "Shae by Air" DVD made a huge difference for us with our 2 & 3 year old boys. Now that we are settled abroad, we just went on a short flight and brought the book with us to the airport-- they could not believe they were actually in the airport while looking at the ...

My Car26 reviews

HarperTrophy, 2004

Children's car book
This is a great book if your child is obsessed with cars as ours is. It explains all the car parts, and is very colorful. It's a cute little book. Very general.

I Want to Be an Astronaut22 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1991

Easy read
My 5 year old son was able to read the book by himself after I read it to him the first time. It is a very easy book to read and wonderfully illustrated. We loved it

Machines at Work28 reviews

HarperCollins, 1987

Simplicity is its strong suit!
When I first got this for my son (2 years), I thought "What a snooze-fest!" We were still high on the Mo Willems wave, still in love with Knuffle Bunny and the slightly off-kilter viewpoint of the Pigeon, so the utter barrenness and simplicity of Machines at Work honestly put me off. But, as it is all about the baby (and don't he know it!), Connor simply loves it! Although he is fickle (we have ...

Trucks. Lap Edition2 reviews

HarperFestival, 2006

Best Board Books
Byron Barton Board Books (wow...try to say that 5 times fast!) are the best that I've found. My son has loved the Trucks book since since he was 6 months old and still loves it along with Planes and Boats at 14 months. Some things I've noticed about these books: 1) Bold color and pictures of individual objects without unnecessary and distracting detail. 2) Simple composition of pictures ...

Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport2 reviews
Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, 1980

A delightful children's book on moving to Arizona
"Gila Monsters" has to be one of my favorite children's books. It addresses the fear of a young boy from New York, whos "parents are moving out west." His friend told him that "Gila Monsters Meet You at the Airport," and he knows it's true, because he read it in a book. When he finally arrives at the airport, he meets another young boy who is moving to New York and filled with fears, ...

Good Morning, Chick2 reviews
Mirra, Illustrated By Byron Barton Ginsburg

Scholastic Book Services, 1980

Good Morning, Chick
This is a wonderful book for small children. They will love the main character, the chick, and his adventures. The reader will also enjoy the book and the reaction of the child listening to the story. Very cute and easy to understand. A wonderful introduction to learning about chicks and their mothers.

The Paper Airplane Book3 reviews
Seymour Simon

Puffin, 1976

A Godsend to Children, both educational and incredibly fun!!
my dear old granddad (god rest his soul) did not spend a lot of time with my family, and his gifts were sometimes a bit off-target, as a result. THIS GIFT WILL STAY ON-TARGET I was just a lil' munchkin, or as a certain childhood favorite of fiction used to say, I was "the littlest end of nothin' sharpened!" Granddad was a physics professor during a time, and in a way, quite brilliant. He ...

Truck Song (Reading Rainbow Book)4 reviews
Diane Siebert

HarperTrophy, 1987

fun to read
My son, my wife, and I have all enjoyed this book greatly. The pictures are inviting and clean-looking, which is great for a toddler (many books for this age group seem visually cluttered), yet they include sufficient detail to reward close looking. The words, or lyrics, are quite fun to read and hear, making this book at times a welcome relief from the truck picture books with no plot (yes, my ...

Little Factory2 reviews
Sarah Weeks

Laura Geringer, 1998

MY Son's Love This Book
I picked this up at a rummage sale and it was unopened, I just knew it would be added to the rest of the books just sitting on the shelf waiting to be read. When I popped the CD in and played it, my boys went crazy over it. My 3 year old sat at the computer and played it over and over and over. My 1 1/2 year old danced to the music and laughed at the colorful characters dacing on the screen. ...

Bones, Bones, Dinosaur Bones3 reviews
Byron Barton

Scholastic, 1990

For young dinosaur enthusiasts...
My five year old daughter specifically asked for this book as a Christmas gift after checking it out at the library during the summer; it made a huge impression! The simple text and vibrant illustrations are perfect for young children.

The Three Bears10 reviews

HarperCollins, 1999

One of our family's most favorite books!
We checked this book out of the library when our oldest daughter was 2 (she is now 7). She loved it so much, we bought it. It was the first book that she memorized and we video taped her "reading" it and using different voices for each bear. The same thing happened with our son (now 4) - it was the first book he "read" to himself. And he still enjoys having the story read to him (sometimes by ...

Little Red Hen Big Book6 reviews

HarperTrophy, 1994

Good Version for Toddlers
This book has been a favorite for the last several months. My son liked the repetition and the bright pictures from the start, and as he gets older (he's now 21 months) he also enjoys naming the animals and what they are doing. There is lots in the pictures for a toddler to talk about: planting seeds, cooking, kite flying, napping, and so on. I'm not wild about the artwork in this book, but ...
