Billy and Blaze8 reviews
C. W. Anderson

Buccaneer Books, 1992

Start here
for fun and adventure. The Billy and Blaze series is great fun. Young boys, even those not interested in horses, will love these books. My 7yo has never had an interest in horses (he thinks they smell bad) but he hangs on to every word of these adventurous stories.

Twenty gallant horses5 reviews
C. W Anderson

MacMillan, 1965

One of his best
I loved C.W. Anderson's books as a child, but I bought this one as an adult. The stories, while simply written, are sometimes heart-wrenching and always captivating. Each narrative is accompanied by a beautiful full-page drawing in Anderson's distinctive style. Anderson's tendency to deliver educational lectures via a stereotypical "wise old horseman" (which even as a child I found annoying, ...

Blaze and the Forest fFire5 reviews
C. W Anderson

Macmillan Publishing Co. Inc., 1948

Wonderful, extraordinary book!
C.W. Anderson has outdone himself with this Billy and Blaze story. I love most of his Blaze series with its timeless feel and innocence; what life used to be about. Blaze and Billy are put in a situation of defending the entire forest. They must make their way over hill and dale to alert the neighbouring farm. Will they make it... well I wont spoil it for you. Blaze and the Forest Fire is a ...

Blaze & Thunderbolt3 reviews
Clarence W. Anderson, C. W. Anderson

Macmillan Publishing Company, 1969

Great Book for Young Boys
The whole Billy and Blaze series is wonderful. This book is my son's favorite. The story is about how Billy takes Blaze on a ranch vacation. They see a wild horse they name Thunderbolt. None of the grown up cowboys can get near him. Blaze and Thunderbolt become fast friends. Eventually Thunderbolt follows them home, jumps in the corral with Blaze, and becomes friends with Billy. Billy is ...

Blaze and the Mountain Lion4 reviews
Clarence W. Anderson, C. W. Anderson

MacMillan Publishing Company, 1969

Great adventure with Billy and Blaze
This time Billy and Blaze set out west (for a family holiday) and encounter great boy adventures and make a new cowboy friend. Billy and Blaze books teach courage and responsibility and consideration for others. These things do seem to be lacking in a lot of children's literature these days. If you want a classic story with good values and a great storyline, this is for you and your boys.

C. W. Anderson

Peter Smith Pub Inc, 2001

A must for the horselover of any age!
The Billy & Blaze series was my absolute favorite in gradeschool-- the illustrations are gorgeous, and the stories are well thought out and written superbly. I remember signing this series out of the school library over and over and over again... now as an adult, I am THILLED to see it offered here at Amazon. None of these books will disappoint a horselover-- no matter what age you are!

BLAZE SHOWS THE WAY
This book is perfect for the very young horse lover it is easy to read and has wonderful pictures. It is a story of one boy and his pony who helps another boy with his pony. My 4 year old grand-daughter loves it. All of C. W. Anderson books are a pleasure to read for both the young and old horse lovers. I have enjoyed them since I was a child. Great Story for Boys
My son (4 next week) wanted some "Wild, Wild West" stories. I found the wonderful books by C.W. Anderson in the library. I bought several of the reprints in paperback because he loves the stories so. The gentle adventures of Billy and his pony Blaze are a wonderful way for young boys to learn the virtues of loyalty and friendship and the love of animals. In this book Billy and Blaze spend ...

Blaze finds the trail6 reviews
C. W Anderson

MacMillan, 1953

Billy and Blaze
First a comment about the review on above: That review from Publisher's Weekly has nothing to do with this book. I don't know what book it has to do with. Billy and Blaze books are a wonderful series about a boy and his horse and the adventures they find while out riding. I think any child could appreciate these gentle stories. They are a nice break from the commercialized books usually ...

Beautiful
The sweetest story and excellent illustrations. I bought it in the first grade, back in 1976. It took me a while to find a copy again. It is illustrated by the author.

Miracle of Greek Sculpture with Text and Forty-Seven Drawings1 review
C.W. Anderson

C.W. ANDERSON, 1970

A miracle indeed.
From childhood I loved C. W. Anderson's horse illustrations - Billy and Blaze was one of the first horse books I read and loved. I thought of him as mainly an illustrator of children's horse books - imagine my surprise when I found this book. It is a wonderful interpretation of Greek Statuary. Anderson follows Greek art from some of the earliest examples through the classical forms into later ...

I loved this book as well as all of C.W. Andersons books. He is the best childrens writer in the universe. There will never be another writer who will be able to capture the wonder and innocence of childhood past. But for that life ...I wish much

DEEP THROUGH THE HEART - PROFILES OF TWENTY VALIANT HORSES1 review
C.W. Anderson

The Macmillan Company, 1940

fantastic horse book
This is a must have for anyone who collects C.W. Anderson books. It's illustrated with beautiful charcoal drawings of famous horses and their stories. It is out of print. The stories are from the 40's but horse tales are ageless. A great book for teens and adults. Anderson wrote many horse stories during his life. He was well known for his Billy and Blaze series of young boy and his horse.

Afraid to ride3 reviews
C. W Anderson

MacMillan, 1957

a great story for a little girl in love with horses
this is an old fashioned horse book. the school edition has beautiful illustrations. it's probably not progressive enough for some of todays more modern young teenagers, but for night time reading to girls in the 5-9 range, it is great. young girl has a bad fall, stops riding, meets an abused horse that needs tlc, and the two of them bond. a real "happy ending" and very sweet. highly recommend it.

Horses Are Folks1 review
C.W. Anderson

Harper & Brothers, 1949

Another beautiful Anderson book
For anyone who enjoys C.W. Anderson books. It will be appreciated by collectors young and old. It has Anderson's amazing charcole drawings, as he compares people's personalities with horses. He talks about famous horses. This is out of print. It was published in the 40s-50s and is hard to find. One of those books that will be treasured by those who grew up reading Anderson's books.

Complete book of horses and horsemanship (Collier books 04146)1 review
C. W Anderson

Collier Books, 1973

Wonderful horse book!
This was one of my favorite books in the library when I was a child. The text is good, but what I really loved were the pictures. Even though they are "just" black and white drawings, they are awesome! They capture an essence of the horse that is rarely seen. I, personally, prefer the large, hardcover edition precisely because the pictures are bigger than in the small paperback.

The crooked colt1 review
C. W Anderson

MacMillan, 1954

A Tried and True Heart-Warmer
As a retired children's librarian, I am always thrilled to find an old favorite to give to my grandchildren. This one is a classic that never failed to hold primary students spellbound (even the rowdy ones shed a tear and gave a cheer). It is the age-old story of triumph over adversity, under-dog wins. The devotion of the mare to her foal demonstrates the maternal love with which every child ...
