Very Useful
I used this textbook in my general psychology class in college. All in all I would say it was a good book. It explores many important aspects of psychology. It's a very good textbook when taking that subject in school. (Like any textbook) At times the material can seem a bit dry, but overall it's a very useful text if you are interested in studying the field of psychology.

a good alternative
Introductory Psychology is the most difficult psychology course there is. It's incoherent. In one semester (sometimes two) a student is asked to absorb ... all of psychology. Each chapter in a typical Intro Psych text represents a course in itself. And... it's incoherent. There's no *simple* way to divide psychology into manageable units. You can categorize it by topic -- some ...

A normal Psych Book
It's no better than the next book, but it's not a chore reading it either. Get the 8th edition and save a lot of money. As a psych major I still read all the required chapters and found bits and pieces of new information.

what a terrific book!
I'm not usually a big fan of 'self-help' books, but I was caught by the title and couldn't resist. What a terrific book! Well written and accessible, the authors do a very good job of making their many points about the mechanisms of self-justification (and why we should all care) without sounding accusatory or offending the reader. I highly recommend this book to pretty much anyone and everyone.

it was excellent
this book was very straight forward. it was clear and easy for students to grasp. As a professor, I was shocked at the rate my students were reading the material. I am very pleased by the book's explanation of key issues in modern psychology. It should be part of every professor's book collection and for pure enjoyment.

A Good Companion to Lerner's The Dance of Anger.
Carol Tavris offers some very practical advice. Apart from when the expression of anger is intended to dissolve a relationship, anger becomes effective when: (1) the anger is directed at the offending person (telling friends may increase anger); (2) the expression satisfies your need to influence the situation and/or correct an injustice; and, (3) your approach seems likely to change the other ...

This was the text for my Psychology 101
This book is an easy introduction to the basic tenets of Psychology. It is written on about a High School/College level, but at times I found it to be simplistic and condescending. I also found it wanting in the discussion of Freud and the newer developments in evolutionary psychology.

Equality of outcome, not uniformity of treatment
It isn't necessary to agree with everything in this witty book to realize that its subject - male bias - is crucial to our understanding of ourselves as humans. It is such an obvious, if overlooked, fact that using the male as the standard of normalcy for humans is illogical. Tavris exposes the confusion between gender equality and gender sameness. Women and men do differ because of ...
