Jesus, Life or Legend?1 review
Carsten Peter Thiede

Lion UK, 1997

The real Jesus
It has been the habit of skeptics in general and devotees of higher criticism in particular to undermine the authority of the Bible by arguing, among other things, that the ancient scriptures were often times written many years (or decades or centuries) after the events they describe; and that the manuscripts we possess are quite late, and give us little help in deciding what the original ...

The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Jewish Origins of Christianity6 reviews
Carsten Peter Thiede

Palgrave Macmillan, 2003

A Case For The Septuagint
One reviewer claims the book breaks no ground, in that it is already established that Christianity has Jewish roots. While this is true, liberal theology has often claimed that the orthodox doctrines of the deity of Christ and his physical resurrection were not believed by his earliest followers. Thiede's claim, if true, that a fragment of 1 Timothy has been found among the scrolls would ...

The Heritage of the First Christians
Carsten Peter Thiede

Lion Publishing Corporation, 1994

This illustrated guide presents the current state of knowledge about the archaeological remains of Christianity from the 1st century to the 4th. Each topic is based on photographs of the key discoveries. The book shows from archaeological evidence how Christianity spread from the end of the New Testament to the time of Emperor Constantine, following in style and content from Alan Millard's "Treasures from Bible Times" and "Discoveries from the ...

The Jesus Papyrus3 reviews
Matthew D'Ancona

Galilee Trade, 2000

Very Informative!
I finished this book in two days and found it very intriguing as to a topic new to me. Prior to my reading, I thought that the Egyptian found early 2nd century fragment of John's gospel was the earliest recovered piece of New Testament literature. However, this book proves that 3 fragments, also Egyptian found, are pre-Jerusalem destruction (AD 70) although once dated as 3rd-4th century. This ...

Jesus, Man or Myth?1 review
Carsten Peter Thiede

Lion UK, 2005

Comments by Michael Calum Jacques author of '1st Century Radical'.
Any serious work which genuinely seeks to rectify many of the myriad of misnomers and misconceptions which beset the current profile(s) of the 'historical Jesus' is to be welcomed. Essentially whilst 'Jesus, Man or Myth' would appear to many to be written from a broadly Christian standpoint, is unquestionably well worth a good, thorough peruse from those of us with other - either more ...

The Emmaus Mystery: Discovering Evidence For The Risen Christ2 reviews
Carsten Peter Thiede, Matthew D'Ancona

Continuum, 2005

A gentle ramble through history with one or two "gems"
I read the book and loved it! I liked the gentle ramblings into details of history etc and the side stories the author goes into. It was more like taking an informative nature-trail stroll on a Sunday afternoon, rather than a route-march to a destination. The title is a bit misleading but the author does explain the historical take on what a "mystery" is. All in all I liked it.

The Quest For the True Cross1 review
Carsten Peter Thiede, Matthew d'Ancona

Palgrave Macmillan, 2003

Cross Paths
For close to a millennia, the most holy relic in Christendom were the alleged pieces of the true cross held in Jerusalem. That relic has long been lost as it was destroyed in the defeat of the Crusaders and retaking of the Holy Land by Muslim conquerors. In recent years, Carsten Peter Thiede and Matthew d'Ancona have theorized in The Quest for the True Cross that we might still have a piece of ...
