Haiku: The Travelers of Eternity1 review
Charles Ghigna, Armor Keller

River City Press, 2001

Exquisite!
This is haiku at its highest level. All are gems! Keller's Japanese sumi-e ink drawings are the perfect complement to the poetry. This handsome little book is a rare treasure. I plan to give it as gifts.

Mice Are Nice6 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Perfection Learning Prebound, 1999

A hit in Kindergarten!
I am a kindergarten teacher. My children look forward to "story time" each day. When I read this book to them, they enjoyed the humor. Now, each day, they want me to read the book again. Also, they ask to borrow the book during "DEAR" time, and read it on their own. This book is fantastic! Thanks you to Charles Ghigna! Not only is he a wonderful children's author but he is also my cousin!

Plastic Soup: Dream Poems1 review
Charles Ghigna

Black Belt Press, 1999

JAMES DICKEY WAS RIGHT.
Many years ago James Dickey called Charles Ghigna "the finest new poet that I or anybody else has read in a long time." PLASTIC SOUP: DREAM POEMS continues to establish Ghigna as one of the most original voices in contemporary poetry. His poems are full of passion, contempt, and vision. I'm sure Dickey is looking up from his grave right now and saying, "See, I told you!"

Good Cats/Bad Cats2 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Hyperion (Juv), 1992

It was a happy day when we found our lost copy of this book!
Life is full of conflict; especially the ongoing conflict between good and evil. I would have to give evil the upper hand in this book, however, because the evil cats are just funnier. My favorite cartoon is the one where the fat orange tiger cat has just lacerated the kitchen screen door with his claws, allowing a squadron of toothy venomous insects to assault the kitchen. Mind you it's the ...

One Hundred Shoes (Step Into Reading + Math: A Step 2 Book)2 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Topeka Bindery, 2002

One Of His Favorites
I bought this book for my 5 year old and he absolutely loves it. It's one of the few he has actually read over and over again. Some of the early reader books tend to bore him, but he (and I!) find this one very entertaining.

Love Poems1 review
Charles Ghigna

Crane Hill Publishers, 2006

LOVE POEMS from the heart!
I bought this book of LOVE POEMS for my husband to read to me. Even he was moved by them! These are truly some of the most original, real expressions of love that I have ever read. No more Hallmark for me. Give me more of these!

Oh My, Pumpkin Pie! (Step into Reading)1 review
Charles Ghigna

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2005

Such a cute book!
This is one of my 3 year old's favorite books. It's such a cute description of pumpkins - the different sizes, colors, and the different things that can be made from pumpkins - like pumpkin pie. Very good book for little kids!

AMERICAN BOOKSELLER (Pick of the Lists)
"This wonderfully funny collection of simple poems about animals will spark every child's sense of humor. Great for reading aloud, this collection includes silly poems about chickens, bears, donkeys, cows, giraffes, crocodiles, and the like. Speaking in Tongues: Selected Poems, 1974-19943 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Livingston Press (AL), 1994

Well crafted; broad range
I highly recommend this book. It is divided into sections that reveal a broad range of style and subject. Readers who delight in word play will particulary enjoy the poems on the circus and on authors. My favorite section is the one on Howard, an ambitious series of poems on an enigmatic schoolmate named Howard. "When Howard Became Jesus" will send a tingle down your spine. Sometimes to be ...

See the Yak Yak (Step Into Reading: (Early Hardcover))3 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Tandem Library, 2001

It works!
My son is 5.3 yrs. After reading through it twice together he was able to read it by himself. The graphics enable the reader to envision why a homonym is a homonym. The words are nicely spaced and easy to read. I had the same experience with Sunshine,Moonshine which is another of the books in the Early Step into Reading series. I highly recommend it.

Wings of Fire1 review
Charles Ghigna

Druid Pr, 1992

MARY VEAZEY
"The voice of WINGS OF FIRE is troubadour-like, mingling eros and agape, a Dante-Beatrice vision of high romance: unrelentingly, piercingly lyrical, a true dialogue of body and soul, mysterious and haunting. The individual poems, brief, Sapphic in intensity, delineate a sensuous consummation of the title, a joyous affirmation of the individual voice: 'The fire we shared speaks in tongues, an ...

A Fury of Motion: Poems for Boys3 reviews
Charles Ghigna

Boyds Mills Press, 2003

The Bones of Poetry
Most boys don't like poetry unless it's Shel Silverstein or Jack Prelutsky so Ghighna has a tough task to get into the kid's backpacks, but this little book might just do the trick. Kids might also want to try their hand at writing their OWN poems based on the titles of these poems, as well as enjoying the poems themselves. For older boys, tougher boys, after this book is devoured, I'd also get ...
