Jane Eyre
Sublime. One of the best books I've ever read. The voice of Jane is powerful and the plot is intriquing. A very bold adventure for the author given the times she lived in - exploring themes of freedom of choice of a husband, career options for women, women's rights etc. Very absorbing and thoroughly entertaining. Five stars.

Best Book in the World!
Jane Eyre is my favorite book. I love it. I read it first when I was 10, but it did not appeal to me at all, so I stopped reading it. I tried a year later. It immediately became my favorite book. I have read many other good books too, like Rebecca, but Jane Eyre is #1! I have recommended it to all my friends who love reading. This book is very great for someone my age (12) who is not ...

The horror... the horror... Wide Sargasso Sea is a searing indictment
Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea is a dreamlike feverish novel awash in passion and trauma. Forget for a moment that it's a sequel to "Jane Eyre" or that it is a seminal text in Feminism and Colonialist studies. Simply as a story of trauma and madness executed in a modern stream of consciousness style it is brilliant. Disorienting, agonizing, nightmarish yet stunningly beautiful; I was forced to read ...

This is one of the great books for love, passion and characters.
As I was in the middle of the book, I was so drawn to the characters I felt full. Later there was sadness for awhile. At the end I was full of joy. My feelings were "wow - what a wonderful journey." I loved the two main characters, Edward and Jane, their individual natures, their love for each other and how they pursued it. There were interesting and unexpected conversations and events. I ...

Too consummate to be fully defined
Villette is a novel that cannot be pigeon-holed, though it falls loosely into the "Gothic novel" genre. It has many elements of the Gothic novel (the ghost in the attic just for a start) but Bronte turns every single convention of her time and her genre on its head, sometimes multiple times, until the form is a totally new one and all Bronte's own. As incredible as it may sound, this is both ...

READ ME! READ ME! READ ME!
I enjoyed the selected poems. I saw a lot of the same passion in the poems that I have seen also in many of their novels. If you enjoyed the poems you should be sure to get a hold of the Tenant of Wildfell Hall written by Anne Bronte and my utmost favorite Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is definitely a book I would recommend.

Wonderful!
Jane Eyre is never a disappointment. Bronte really can touch your heart with the struggles of the main character. A woman in the post-modern era could have easily been in the same situation. Bronte put forth a completely time-less quality in this book. If you have the patience, it can keep you nailed to your seat!!

The only edition to buy
This review is aimed more toward the Norton edition than to JANE EYRE. We all know this is a classic. Bronte was simply a genius and a harbinger of romantic, dramatic, gothic, and horror writing. (However, it still irks me that she couldn't end a simple sentence with a period. Every declarative statement, it seems, must be qualified with a colon or semi-colon. Oh well. Sign of the times.) As ...

Beautiful use of description
Villette has always been my favorite book. The use of language and description is superior to her other works. I wouldn't need to see a movie of this book, I already feel like I walked in the garden or sat in one of the classrooms. When I first read the ending, I actually loved it, and still do.
JANE EYRE - KINDLE EDITION [ENG]
Classics-Unbound, 2008
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontė, published by Smith, Elder & Company of London in 1847, is one of the most famous of English novels. Brontė first styled it Jane Eyre: An Autobiography under the pseudonym Currer Bell. It was an immediate critical and popular success. Especially effusive in his praise was William Makepeace Thackeray, to whom Brontė dedicated the novel's second edition, which was illustrated by F. H. Townsend. Source: Wikipedia.org ...

very intense
The outdated writing style takes a little getting used to, but once you do, it's good. It's incredible to me how the author, with her unusually limited experience of the outside world, who probably never had a boyfriend or lover in her life and lived a secluded life in a remote part of Yorkshire with her sisters and died a virgin, could have created such an incredibly realistic and well-drawn ...

A Beloved Classic & Remarkable Literary Work - B&N Edition Includes Excellent Introduction and Notes!
Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" has been one of my favorite novels since I first read it in high school. It is one of those special books which can be read and savored over and over, and seems to improve with each reading. The tale is narrated by Miss Eyre, herself, inviting a special and intimate relationship with the reader. It is through Jane that we meet and grow to care about, or hate, so ...

You must go back with me to the autumn of 1827 to meet Helen Huntington and learn her secret sorrows
How explain literary genius? How pinpoint the DNA which made three Yorkshire girls living in a rundown parsonage world famous authors? "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" author is Anne the youngest of the Bronte sisters. This novel is little known but is still an excellent example of Victorian fiction at its best. The novel is set in the Regency period and deals with a mysterious widow who becomes the ...

After reading classic novels on and off in school until I got out of college and in my own free time, I have to say Charlotte Bronte's writing style is the most intricately and splendidly crafted masterpiece.
