You can't help but love Mr. McGee!
We were at the Public Market in Portland, Maine during the summer of 2004, where Chris van Dusen was signing copies of this book. Since we spend the summer camping, we bought the book for our son who was 2 years old at the time. We all fell in love with the story, the pictures and Mr. McGee immediatly; and 1 1/2 years later it is still among our favorites! Santa will be bringing Down at the ...

Jennifer Flamingo's Review
This is the story about Mercy (a pig), Mrs. Watson, Mr. Watson, Baby Lincoln, Eugenia Lincoln, and a Police Officer. In the beginning of the story we learned that Mercy wants to drive. Mr. Watson and Mercy go for a ride every Saturday in Mr. Watson's pink convertible. Every Saturday Mercy wants to drive the car but Mr. Watson says no. Mr. Watson gets distracted and Mercy jumps on Mr. Watson's ...

Mercy Watson (and Kate D.) to the rescue
What a great addition to the early chapter book category. Humor, great characters, real linear storytelling and eye-popping illustrations make these books a real breath of fresh air for early readers. My young (struggling) reader was bringing home thin, uninspiring early readers until her teacher added Mercy Watson to the read-alouds. I knew we had a hit (and a breakthrough) when my child ...

Boys will be Boys
Chris Van Dusen is a marvelous illustrator/author who is able to think the way a kid thinks. "If I Built a Car" has been a favorite of all the young boys I know and a few girls too. Nope, I'm not Chris' mother. Just an avid fan.

Mercy Watson to the Rescue (Mercy Watson)18 reviews
Kate Dicamillo

Candlewick, 2005

Great beginning chapter book
My niece was not inspired by any chapter books. The clerk at a local bookstore recommended this series and BAM!--the niece was hooked. My only question is: can Kate DiCamillo write these fast enough to satisfy a book-hungry seven-year-old? This is also a great book to read out loud. The characters and humor jump off the page, even when a non-actor such as myself attempts to "do voices."

All Time Favorite
"Down to the Sea With Mr. Magee" is one of our family all-time-favorite kids books! The kids, boys and girls, love the rhyming scheme and the antics of Mr. Magee and his little dog Dee. And grown ups marvel at its cleverness! Chris Van Dusen claims to be writing and illustrating another book.....we can hardly wait.

My four boys love these books about Mercy the pig. They make a great first chapter book for readers too. They now ask for toast with a great deal of butter at breakfast time.

Good Book
I felt it was a little heavy handed on getting kids to read. It's a great message. It's just that kids don't want to be preached to, but I do think it's a good book and great for the child who loves animals and especially cats. Author of "Hobo Finds A Home"
