Terrance Brennan, Andrew Friedman

Wiley, 2005

Great cheese puffs!
I was anxious to try the Artisanal gougere recipe, and I was not disappointed! The cheese puffs were light and cheesey and beautiful to look at! I compared his recipe to Le Cordon Blue recipe, and his adds a pinch of baking powder and about 2-3 times the amount of cheese. Plus he give approximate mixing times, which was a blessing for me since I had never made cream puff dough before. The ...

Wow!!....All the great restaurant recipes now at home!!
I've visited Dave's restaurant, Esca, many times over and have never been disappointed. He does amazing things with seafood...especially with foods which I would never think of eating raw. I've always wondered how he does such masterful dishes and this book gives me that insight, and it's so simple. I can't wait to start serving crudo to my guests!

Fried and True: Crispy and Delicious Dishes from Appetizers to Desserts1 review
Rick Rodgers

Chronicle Books, 1998

Great cooking the way it used to be.
OK, so all of us have steered ourselves away from fried foods & towards poached chicken breasts (skinless, of course) and steamed vegetables. How about just a little taste of good eating from the past? No one is recommending a return to deep-fried foods as an everyday meal, but the taste treats in this book are just too good to ignore! Rodgers' chatty writing style and well-tested recipes ...

Simple Soirees: Seasonal Menus for Sensational Dinner Parties6 reviews
Peggy Knickerbocker

Stewart, Tabori and Chang, 2005

inspiring & easy to use
I like to have people over for dinner but I'm never sure what makes a good menu. This book takes the worry out of entertaining. The tone is accessible and reassuring, the recipes are great and not hard to follow. Now I feel confident enough to mix and match some of the menus and I know everything will come out alright. The photos and design are gorgeous so it's a good gift book, too.

Saveur Cooks Authentic American: Celibrating the Recipes and Diverse Traditions of Our Rich Heritage15 reviews
Colman Andrews, Dorothy Kalins

Chronicle Books, 1998

Great American Cooking
This book has a wonderful diversity of recipes, all fairly easy to prepare with ingredients that are easy to get. It's certainly attractive enough for a coffee table book, and the pictures are enough to get anyone's appetite going. Because of the recipes, though, it lives in my kitchen, and more than one page has got stains on it from use. I recommend the macaroni and cheese!
