Cornelia Otis Skinner, Emily Kimbrough

Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers, 2005

Heartwarming and hilarious
Having first watched the black-and-white movie based on this book, I was eager to meet Cornelia and Emily again inside its pages, and was not disappointed. The story of two young girls taking their first trip abroad, Our Hearts Were Young and Gay is the true story of their adventures, ranging from heartwarming to hilarious. Some memorable incidents: Emily throwing a deckchair over the side of the ...

Elegant Wits and Grand Horizontals1 review
Cornelia Otis Skinner

Houghton Mifflin Co, 1962

Wonderful!
A sparkling and delightful gem of a book about the social life of Belle Epoque France. If you're a fan of Proust, or of this gorgeous, sumptuous era in itself, Skinner's book is a must-have. Covering the salons of Paris, some famous actors and actresses, Belle Epoque Paris and the world of the courtesans, to name a few subjects, this is an almost incomparable peek into the 1890s and 1900s.

Cornelia Otis Skinner

Houghton Mifflin, 1962

Name dropping abounds!

From the elegant wits of Boni de Castellane and Robert Montesquei to the Grand Horizontals of Liane de Pougy and La Belle Otero, and the equally ...

Our Hearts Were Young and Gay13 reviews
Cornelia Otis Skinner

Putnam Publishing Group, 1942

Hilarious, naive, a simpler time!
Cornelia Otis skinner is the real comedienne of this pair of authors and injects a lot more humor into this book, as opposed to most of Kimbrough's solo works. You cannot imagine two more naive college girls traveling about Europe in the 1920's. It was a simpler time, and today has great appeal to one's nostalgic side. If you get a chance to pick up a used copy, do so!
