The Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup the Viking: The First Collection 2 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2007
Great collection for reluctant readers We started our reading of this series with this collection and so far are extremely pleased. These books, with their love of kid oriented vulgarity, sporadic illustrations, charts and translations, lovable yet ornery pet dragons, and gripping adventures, suit his interests to a tee. I expect we'll be going back for the rest of this series. Fortunately, I enjoy reading them myself!

How to Train Your Viking, by Toothless: Translated from the Dragonese by Cressida Cowell 1 review Cressida Cowell
Hodder & Stoughton Children's Books, 2006
A Must-Have for Cressida Cowell Fans! I am a HUGE Cressida Cowell fan and have read all of her dragon series books to my students. They make GREAT read alouds (although there is some crude humor- you know, farting jokes, poo, nothing that kids don't talk about anyway!). This book is a bit different than her others in that it is paperback (the others in the series I have read are hardcover) and it is a smaller size. It is supposed ...

How to Twist a Dragon's Tale (Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) 5 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2008
Fabulous series Wonderfully written, wonderful artwork, funny, engaging -- it has it all.
My 9 y/o and I have been reading the whole series. We just wish there were more. The language can be a bit coarse for those of a tender bent (various fart references) -- but what do you think 9 y/o talk about anyway?
The artwork really is pretty special and is in keeping with the author's premise of this being the ...

How to Train Your Dragon (Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) 32 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2004
A Special Book What would you do if you had to go into a cave full of dragons? Well in this book Harry, Fishless, Bulldog, and Snoutalout had to go into it the cave and get a dragon.
When they get their dragon they have to train their dragon until the dragon can fish, hunt, and battle in two months or else their coach (Gobbler) will destroy them with his club. Later Harry taught his dragon how to fight, ...

How to Speak Dragonese (Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) 7 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2006
How to Speak Dragonese (Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) It's always hard to find a book that will keep my 8yrs interested. But from the first chapter to the last he enjoyed the story. The characters and their antics he said where great. He asked me to order the other books in the group even before he finished this one.

How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse (The Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup the Viking) 6 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2007
Great book for 7 year old! My 7 year old son loved this book, which was irreverent enough to keep his attention. Anything with a dragon is usually a plus. After reading this one, he went on to another Heroic Misadventure of Hiccup book without missing a beat.

A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons (Hiccup) 1 review Cressida Cowell
Hodder Children's Books, 2008
My 9-year-old LOVES it! I ordered this book for my son. He has read all the books in this series (this is #5 or #6) and I can't express in words how much he LOVES the whole series. He is a reluctant reader, but zips through these books in less than a week! This book is a bit longer than the preious books, so it took him a bit longer to read. I asked him if this title was better or worse than the other books. He ...

How to Be a Pirate (Heroic Misadventures of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III) 12 reviews Cressida Cowell
Little, Brown Young Readers, 2005
It was super, duper great!!! (Kid Review) My Name is Jack and I'm 8 years old and I love to read. I read this book in three days because I just couldn't stop reading. I loved it because it was funny, surprising, and one of the best books I've read. My favorite part was when the boat sinks and Hiccup ends up in an underwater cave and finds the treasure of Grimbeard the Gastly. It's all about Pirates, Vikings and Dragons which I love. ...

Super Sue at Super School 1 review Cressida Cowell
Candlewick, 2005
Pop ups don't work well This book has a great story and would be great for any child entering school. I was disappointed to find that most of the popups didn't work correctly or were "sticky" within two readings we had already ripped two trying to get them to work.

Super Sue 1 review Cressida Cowell
Candlewick, 2003
super book My nearly two-year-old instantly fell in love with this book. She "demanded" that it be read three times in a row and would have kept on if I hadn't insisted on stopping. She loves to say "Super Sue" and really loved all the moving pieces of the book.

Claydon Was a Clingy Child Cressida Cowell
Hodder & Stoughton, 2002
Claydon goes everywhere with his mother: sky-diving, skateboarding, skiing and more. He thinks it is safer but one day he decides that maybe, just maybe, life might be better not clinging to his mother's leg. This delightful new title from a star author is a hilarious yet sympathetic look at one child's growing sense of independence.

What Shall We Do with the Boo Hoo Baby? (in Russian & English languages) Cressida Cowell
Mantra Lingua, 2004
This is a wonderfully illustrated picture book that is also bilingual (Russian-English). It tells a sweet story of the four animals (Cat, Dog, Cow and Duck) who are trying to deal with the crying baby. They feed him, they bath him, and they play with him. They can't wait for the baby to fall asleep - that's when they can rest, too! Printed in large print and full of repetition, it's perfect for little bilingual children.

Hiccup The Seasick Viking 1 review Cressida Cowell
Scholastic, 2000
Do YOU every get Frightened? Cressida Cowell has written a very caring story to show that even adults get frightened and that is ok. It appears to be a wonderful story to share with children when they are frightened about something new in their lives. Well worth reading.
