A lesson we have all learned the hard wayEdith and Little Ba The story centers around Edith and how she has negelected her true friend Little Bear because she has a new kitten to play with. Once she gets the chicken pox and knows how much she misses Little Bear and Kitten is not so much fun. To make friends again Edith buys a Puppy for Bear.... The flow of the images is excellent you become part of the picture and they all come to life. Dare Wright ...

Edith and Mr. Bear: A Lonely Doll Story 21 reviews Dare Wright
Topeka Bindery, 2001
I loved Edith!!! I read these books as a child and was never able to forget them! As an artist and photographer these books are a great inspiration to me. The fact that people are so disturbed by the books is not surprising to me. However, I consider these books as art and not just your basic childrens stories. Dare Wright was an artist. She just chose a different medium then some people might have to ...

A Gift from the Lonely Doll 7 reviews Dare Wright
Random House, 1966
Still Enchanting after all these years I loved this book as a child, and was thrilled to see
it reissued. Little Bear is the perfectly annoying little
brother nagging Edith about the gift that Mr Bear loved
even before it was "fixed".

Look at a Kitten 1 review Dare Wright
Random House, NY, 1975
Cute, cute, and more cute. Dare Wright, Look at a Kitten (Random House, 1975)
Of all the Dare Wright books I've come across, which have held the unspoken promise of being books of photography that are slim excuses for a heavy dose of death by cuteness, Look at a Kitten is the first one that actually delivers on that promise. Wright's narration is about as heavy-handed as ever, but the pictures are straight-up cute ...

Doll and the Kitten 3 reviews Dare Wright
DoubleDay, 1960
A book children of all ages, including adults, will adore. This is the sequel to "The Lonely Doll", Dare Wright's first photo story using her doll in delightful pictures to illustrate the text. It will delight children from age 2 and above (and charm the adults as well). Why it is currently OUT OF PRINT is beyond me. Best shared with a child in your lap!

Lona: A Fairy Tale 2 reviews Dare Wright
Random House, 1963
Lona ; a fairy Tale My mom had the book Lona since she was little. It is the best fairy tale I have ever read. It stands apart from other fairy tales because instead of an evil step-mother preventing a stepdaughter from going to a ball and the prince saving her it is the prince that gets enchanted. Then the princess, Lona, has to save three kingdoms. And not just that, but she is the size of a doll! When she gets ...

Edith and the duckling 2 reviews Dare Wright
Doubleday, 1981
really sad ending....heart sank This story is really neat. Edith and Little bear raise a duck. Mr. Bear tries to educate them a little so they are good parents. Little bear comes up with some great ideas on how to teach it to swim. Kids can see how ducks are born to be ducks. The end is sad though, as the duck flies away while Edith is in tears. Just a dose of reality. The lesson to let things go, I guess.
Honestly though, ...

Ocracoke in Fifties 1 review
John F. Blair Publisher, 2006
Honoring Ocracoke With simple prose and beautiful photographs, this slim volume evokes the island's history and beauty. It conjures the spirit of those who founded Ocracoke village and portrays the strong sense of community that continues to this day. It is a graceful snapshot of the island at the moment it became ripe for discovery by the rest of us, thanks to a paved road and National Seashore status.
Let's ...

Edith and Little Bear Lend a Hand 2 reviews Dare Wright
Random House Childrens Books (Lib), 1972
No spanking, Great photos in NYC, environmental and community oriented The Edith Doll books get a lot of criticism for their old school methods of punishment (spanking and talk of hating). Thie book is one that will stand the test of time in my opinion. Edith and Little Bear want to stay in NYC, but Mr Bear thinks the city is no longer a health place to raise children. Good plot. The two little ones do their best to clean up the city. The photos and their logic is ...

Baby animals! Dare Wright, Look at a Colt (Random House, 1969)
Dare Wright's baby animal books are perfect for folks who get creeped out by Edith's facial expression in the Lonely Doll books. All live-action photography of baby animals here, and simple text accompanying to give you some overview of the life of the baby animal in question. This time, it's a mustang colt.
Kids (and adults) going through ...
