Spss for Windows: Step By Step
Darren George, Paul Mallery

Pearson, 2007

This is one of the best SPSS guides on the market. The book outlines virtually every command - from codebooking to regression - for 14.0 and other later editions of the stat-package.

Excellent reference
As a first time user of SPSS, I was easily able to set up a data file using this reference book. It is very clearly written, easy to understand, and I think much better than the Pallant "SPSS Survival Manual" which I also purchased.

essential to making SPSS painless
This book has been an essential tool for me, both for wandering in the world of statistics, and specifically SPSS. I've worked with the book from its earlier stages, and the consistency and updates are appreciated. It's an excellent reference for those who use SPSS regularly or casually. The book politely avoids labelling readers as dummies, but really, the book goes into very simple steps, as ...

A Bible for Data Analysis using SPSS!!
This is by far the best book I have found on Data Analysis with SPSS!! I would give it 10 stars if possible :-) It somehow manages the impossible of being understandable, useful and interesting both for newbies as well as experienced researchers. First of all, it includes a quite comprehensive -more than anything else on the market, besides the manuals of SPSS of course- list of analyses ...

SPSS Windows Step by Step: A Simple Guide and Reference3 reviews
Darren George, Paul Mallery

Excellent buy
This book has proven to be both an excellent tutorial and reference for not only SPSS but also statistics in general. The step-by-steps are easy to follow--even for the a novice computer user. Each chapter also provides a brief summary of when that statistical proceedure is appropriate which is quite useful. In addition, each chapter's "Output" section tell you which of SPSS's abundant output ...

The only book you'll need
George's book is the only one you'll need to do your statistics. It got me through graduate school. Field's book is good too, but contains much more math than some of us need to see. If you want something that will clearly and simply tell you what buttons to push to do what you need to write your thesis or dissertation, George's book is one you want.

SPSS for Windows Step by Step: A Simple Guide and Reference, 10.0 Update (3rd Edition)5 reviews
Darren George, Paul Mallery

Allyn & Bacon, 2001

A comment from the Author
Paul Mallery (my co-author) and I have gone to excruciating efforts, particularly on the first 16 chapters of this book, to create a tool that makes SPSS absolutely clear to the beginner. In the final 12 chapters our book explores more complex statistical procedures (log-linear models, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, multi-dimensional scaling, and others) in the identical format as the ...

Prentice Hall, 2007

Perfect for undergrads and grad students alike
I was amazed w/how clearly this book explained concepts (as compared with other books/professors). The book also explains the concepts in different ways/perspectives, so that if you don't understand one explanation you're likely to understand the others. The book also has a perfect range of material--complete coverage of Z-scores, t-tests, regression, and ANOVAs; all the way thru concepts like ...
