You Need More Practice and More Review? Buy if you must!
This book hardly teaches "how to solve word problem in Geometry". It just crams as much geometry definitions and theorems as it can into small space which can only confuse students that are already confused. In fact, the listing of concepts are not ordered well either. I almost gave this book 1 star rating since I strongly believed this book DID NOT do the job as its' cover seem to promise. ...

a must read
I had to read this for government, it is worth the time. It goes in depth about books banned; art of love, casndide, dubliners, the handmaid's tale, judge the obscure, lolita, madame bovary, and women in love. The sad fact is that there are millions of book lost by the surpression of a few, with it went our first amendment rights!

Great Companion, Not overly analytical
This is a great companion if you are looking for a good reference and some analysis but not overly detailed psychoanalysis of every story. I have found other companions like "the Cambridge Companion" to be too analytical and also extremely hard to reference and exact story. Often times other books like the Cambridge companion, analyze something specific in one chapter (for example his detective ...

A touch of free speech with a sense of lacking
Even though this book brings important items out to light, the work itself is lacking and at times incomplete. It also has a strong sense of sensasionalism to it, think of watching NBC on daily news. The mention of films like The Great Dictator as items under censorship and controversy is in itself sensasionalistic, as opposed to Citizen Kane which is not mentioned at all, gives a better idea of ...

Great writing resource
I think this book was finely crafted for a work devoted to so mundane a subject as basic writing. The author managed to dredge up from the morass of academia a few gems of useful instruction, all of which were polished and presented in a well organzied and helpful manner. I would wholeheartedly recommend this particular work to the novice writer. And, as it is the only book I have ever read on ...

A list of books banned over the years
In "120 Banned Books" the authors pull together a collection of books that have been banned at some point in history for Political, Religious, Sexual, and/or Social grounds. I found this book very interesting in two ways. First, it offers a nice synopsis of 120 books, a few of which are somewhat obscure. And as it is unlikely that many have read all of these, this book provides enough ...

If you suffer from insomnia and are looking for a sleeping pill... read this book !
Not only guaranteed to put you off to sleep within 5 minutes, but also never to be interested in the subject again !! Written without even an ounce of humour... but really moralistic ("went into her own infamy" - this is about Lucrece Borgia)... it can be put safely into any hands ! I don't know what an historian would make of some of the affirmations (Ninon de Lenclos... lived bitterly the end ...

extremely interesting book
I couldn't put this book down. The stories of censorship are fascinating and provide keen insight into the histories of the times when the books were published. In particular, the authors do an excellent job of bringing out the societal forces that were in conflict. I highly recommend this book.

An indispensable work
Many books have been written concerning the life and writing of Agatha Christie, but, so far, this book must take the prize for being the most comprehensive, well-informed and accurate guide to the work of this remarkable author. This is not a critical appraisal of Christie's works, but rather the sort of book you need at hand when reading a Christie title. Dawn B. Sova has compiled an ...

BEWARE!
This book is very well researched. However potential buyers should be aware of a very glaring flaw. The introduction concludes by saying "And, by the way, none of the solutions of the plots are revealed." As a matter of fact, pretty-much ALL the solutions are revealed in one way or another. Someone using this book while they are reading one of Christie's novels in order to look up a character ...
