I worked on a project with the Oregon DOT, in which I drove about ten thousand miles throughout Oregon in one summer. I own a car load of maps
The California Gazetteer always goes with me on a road trip - or if I'm planning one. I'm a new transplant to California, and the maps in the Gazetteer are colorful, easy to read, and as complete as I need. I very rarely can't find where I'm heading on these maps, and they are easy enough for my navigator to keep up where we are and where we need to go on. I am very satisfied.

Great for hunting, camping, hiking & more...
Got this for deer and especially elk hunting season this year (2009). Worked great, but the scale is a bit high for even the smaller maps overall. I ended up scanning the page with my hunting area on it and blowing it up about 125% to 150% - and then used that when hiking/hunting. Worked great and covered just about all of the major and minor roads & trails where I was.

As already stated by the other reviewers, the DeLorme atlas & gazetteer is fantastic. I love the many points-of-interest features which other map products lack.
But if you're going to buy one, don't get this 2005 edition, go find the 2008 edition (such as on DeLorme's website). In addition to the road updates, the new one has GPS coordinates and more topographical info. I'm a little ...

Living in rural Idaho, this guide is a must.
Is it 100% accurate? Well, no.....our roads are often dirt and change frequently, but it's accurate enough for 99.9% of the situations that drivers would put themselves in.

Great Map Books to Have
These map books are great to have when traveling even though you might have mapped your route online and have a GPS. They give a great big picture quickly if you need the big picture or need to reroute. I have worn out my old 12 year old ones and wanted to get up to date one. I wouldn't be without them.

I have owned several of these in the past for other states but now that
I own property in Arkansas I needed to have one. It's always nice to
know all the backroads, swimming holes, interesting geographical features
and so on of an area. It makes it easier to identify local landmarks
such as "North Hole" when talking with locals. Great for hunting too.

I've been camping in Maine for a few weeks... Mainers expect you to have one of these. They say "get out your DeLorme's" not "do you have a map?" Some people I've met have pointed me to the right page without looking at the back.

This is the atlas I recommend for finding back roads and hiking trails. These guides are very detailed because they are written for each individual state. Hawaii's map pages are 1:84,000 scale and parts of Alaska can have 1:1,1,400,000 scale. These Delorme Atlas & Gazetters are wondeful. They show you many features not available through GPS, maps or other atlases. It is a great feature to have the BLM lands marked as well as the back roads. Good resources are also included in each states atlas. A good addition to anyone's travel tools.
