Essential Avengers, Vol. 1 (Marvel Essentials)9 reviews
Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, ...

Marvel Comics, 2005

Assemble!
The Avengers have always been one of my favorite comics to read, through good creators and bad. I really enjoyed reading all the early adventures, especially after the original crew left and Captain America took charge. If Cap isn't in an Avengers comic, it's not really the Avengers! This is a series that just gets better and better in its early years.

Essential Iron Man, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials)1 review
Archie Goodwin, Mimi Gold, ...

Marvel Comics, 2008

An Essential Look at Shellhead
Straddling the Silver and Bronze ages for comics, the nearly 600 pages cover 1969-1971 through The Invincible Iron Man #12-#38 and Daredevil #73. Appearances by the Avengers, Daredevil and S.H.I.E.L.D. only enhances the story lines where Tony (Iron Man) Stark faces off against a number of recurring evil doers. This is a very impressive volume of intelligence and technology from the "Armored ...

Tomb of Dracula Omnibus, Vol. 11 review
Gerry Conway, Archie Goodwin, ...

Marvel Comics, 2008

The book is great, Marvels glue are not.
I am only about half way through this book, the writing is good and the artwork is very nice. I can't wait for marvel to put out a Tomb Of Dracula vol 2. Unfortunately, I would have given this review five stars but due to Marvel's horrible glue binding I can only give it 3. Basically, out of the last 5 omnibuses i have ordered 4 have had binding issues. I recommend looking for these defects ...

Stan Lee, Don Heck

Marvel Comics, 2005

''The Real IronMan''
Another hit from the house of ideas.Again Stan Lee writes about what he knows best---- super-heroes. Along with artists and letterers Marvel has added one more super-hero to their list of great reading. Make mine Marvel!

Essential Captain Marvel Volume 1 TPB (Essential)2 reviews
Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, ...

Marvel Comics, 2008

Interesting beginning
Captain Marvel is another character I'm not as familiar with, so this collection was a great start to introduce him. There is great promise shown in the initial issues, especially with the Gene Colan art, but it fades as it goes. There are some confusing plot lines, such as just what Mar-Vell's mission is and why he feels the need to defend humans when he is a Kree military officer. It has a ...

Invincible Iron Man Omnibus, Vol. 12 reviews
Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, ...

Marvel Comics, 2008

Great Collection! But here we go again?
This book gets 4 stars, but Marvel gets 2 stars for releasing another collection that may not continue. Here is yet another collection of the first issues of Iron Man by Marvel Comics. If you've seen the MARVEL MASTERWORKS Iron Man series, then you've already had a taste of what's in here. This contains the first appearance of Iron Man in Tales of Suspense #39, but re-colored today, very ...

Monsters running wild!!!
Before a Gamma bomb was detonated in the dessert, or a young student had a fateful run-in with a radioactive spider at Empire State University, and even before Marvel was Marvel, Stan Lee was in the monster business. Under the banner of Atlas Comics, Lee and the amazing talents of Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Don Heck, Matt Baker, Carl Burgos and Joe Sinnott assaulted young 1950s readers with bold ...

Essential Classic X-Men, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials)8 reviews
Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, ...

Marvel Comics, 2006

It's About Bloody Time, Marvel!
Marvel released volume one in this series YEARS ago, and they have finally given us volume two. The stories in this volume are very rarely reprinted, and are very entertaining. Worth a look, especially if you're a mutant continuity nut like me.

Essential Daredevil, Vol. 4 (Marvel Essentials)1 review
Gerry Conway, Gary Friedrich, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

Graphic SF Reader
Colan soap opera slugfest. The attraction in picking this up is of course Gene Colan's work, which, while shadowy, is certainly a lot more realistic of figure than that produced today. The storyline for a lot of this is quite long, which your shadowy master villain or villains, sending a stream of low-rent villains DD's way. Lots of fighting for him. Plenty of on panel angst about ...

Atlas Era Tales to Astonish (Marvel Masterworks)1 review
Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, ...

Marvel Enterprises, 2008

Return of the Giant Monsters!
Another fantastic collection of Atlas era monster and sci-fi comics. These brought back the wonder and thrills of these old stories (stories I read while waiting with my dad for a chair at the barber shop!) The stories are as creepy as the comics code would allow for that time, and some of the tales actually made our little minds ponders things other than the safety of our own little worlds. ...

The Miskatonic Project: H.P. Lovecraft's The Whisperer in the Darkness2 reviews
Mark Ellis

Transfuzion Publishing, 2008

Here's a chance to get some rare comics in a new edition
The Miskatonic Project is a (as it is called) Perfect Paperback from Transfuzion Publishing. This enterprising comics company is compiling old classic series in nicely bound and presented omnibus editions. They are not doing it cheaply, however, as this book lists $16.99, undiscounted on Amazon, for 128 pages of material. As much as anything else, they are trying to put these comics into ...

Essential Daredevil, Vol. 3 (Marvel Essentials)2 reviews
Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, ...

Marvel Comics, 2005

Our hero cannot make up his mind about being either Daredevil or Matt Murdock
"Essential Daredevil, Volume 3" collects together episodes #49-74 of "Daredevil: The Man Without Fear!" along with "Iron Man" #35-36, which was a crossover story about the Zodiac gang. This represents a transitional period as Roy Thomas replaced Stan Lee as the writer for the book, although by the end of this collection it is Gerry Gonway who has taken over as scripter. Except for three issues ...

Essential Ghost Rider, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials)2 reviews
Gerry Conway, Don Glut, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

An essential collection for an overlooked character
In some respects, the stories are not terribly complex: Ghost Rider travels across the country, chases bad guys and punishes them. However, there is real drama between Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider, as the spirit's real personality starts to come to life, and takes a toll on Blaze's personal life. Highly recommended.

Invaders Classic, Vol. 1 (Marvel Comics, Avengers)5 reviews
Roy Thomas, Frank Robbins, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

A completely worthwile reprint from the '70s
It's no lie that writer Roy Thomas is a fan of the Golden Age of comics. He's proven it time and again on titles like All-Star Squadron, Infinity Incorporated, Alter Ego, and even in the Avenger's Kree-Skrull War. But these all pale when it comes to the Invaders, Thomas' ultimate tribute to the Marvel Comics heroes of the Forties. INVADERS CLASSIC VOLUME 1 collects Giant-Size Invaders #1, ...
