Dyan Sheldon

Dial, 1994

A beautiful way to introduce a child to American history.
We found this story of discovery a beautiful and intelligent way to begin to introduce our child to the history of Native Americans and the world as it was. The illustrations are absolutely breathtaking and our son is taken with the descriptive yet understandable language used by the author. What a magnificent book!

The Whales' Song (Picture Puffins)12 reviews
Dyan Sheldon

Puffin, 1997

Beautiful, loving story, exceptional paintings.
As a homeschooling parent I read this book with my children as we were doing a unit study on sound. Whales have a the ability to make a much higher pitched sound than the human ear can hear. It is their song, or communicating which facinates us. This book offers magnificent and realistic paintings which will delight your eyes as well as your heart. The grandmother tells of the whales, is it real ...

Dyan Sheldon

Candlewick, 2004

An entertaining weekend read
Virtually every teenager goes through it. One day they decide they're going to become more sophisticated, and like Janet, think reading Beat poetry, listening to jazz, and changing their diet and/or wardrobe is the way to achieve such sophistication. It is no surprise then, that when Janet Bandry, protagonist of Dyan Sheldon's "Planet Janet" and her best friend, Disha, decide to enter the "Dark ...

Sophie Pitt-Turnbull Discovers America5 reviews
Dyan Sheldon

Candlewick, 2007

An entertaining read full of humor and quirky characters
Meet Sophie Pitt-Turnbull. She's a proper British teen who has a strong sense of identity. "I've always been happy with who I am. Not in a stuck-up, I'm-the-best-thing-that's happened-since-the-invention-of-the-lightbulb sort of way. More in a God's-done-a-lot-worse-than-Sophie-Pitt-Turnbull sort of way. I reckoned that I'd improve with age (like wine or cheese), but I never expected to change." ...
