Duty First: West Point and the Making of American Leaders22 reviews
Ed Ruggero

HarperCollins, 2001

A wonderful epitaph
One of the central characters of this book is MAJ Rob Olson. He is the TAC officer for the company that Mr. Roggero follows through a year at West Point. After the events of this book, MAJ Olson was promoted early, went to the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He then went to Hawaii to serve with the 25th Infantry Division (Light). I worked for MAJ Olson when he ...

Firefall: Firefall3 reviews
Ed Ruggero

Pocket, 1995

One of my favorite re-reads!!!!!
This book is permanently on my bookshelves. I read it again and again and it is just as gripping as the first time. It is one of my favorite books. I am going to reorder in paperback as my copy is getting a little 'worse for wear'. I am a big reader of war novels and this book can hold it's head up among the best.

Combat Jump : The Young Men Who Led the Assault into Fortress Europe, July 194312 reviews
Ed Ruggero, 2004

Engaging story of the first major test of the US Airborne
Ed Ruggero's "Combat Jump" is a wonderfully written and engaging piece of story-telling! Based mainly upon interviews with veterans of the 82nd Airborne Division (most specifically members of the 505th PIR), Ruggero has crafted a real page turner that takes the reader from the initial theoretical ideals of American Airborne forces to the first major combat - the Sicilian invasion of 1943 - seen ...

38 North Yankee4 reviews
Ed Ruggero

Hamish Hamilton Ltd, 1990

Well Written and A Good Scenerio
A 2nd Korean War is unfortunately a scenerio that could very well happen. Red Phoenix and 38 North Yankee are two excellent fictional attempts at depicting this scenerio. If you like Military fiction, you will enjoy this book.

The ACADEMY13 reviews
Ed Ruggero

Pocket Star, 1998

On Brave Old Army Team!
The Academy is Ed Ruggero's finest novel to date. In this, his first novel without his recurring protagonist Mark Isen, Ruggero does a masterful job of giving the reader a morality play and a mystery wrapped up in a neat package. Ruggero knows his material. After all, he is a West Point graduate and was an English professor there prior to leaving the Army. His characters are all ...

The First Men In: U.S. Paratroopers and the Fight to Save D-Day8 reviews
Ed Ruggero

HarperCollins, 2006

A Great book of history that reads like a novel
Ed Ruggero has written an absolutely fantastic history of some of the most significant airborne operations surrounding the Normandy invasion. To nit-pick the selection of the book title or a minute detail of 82nd Medal of Honor history from World War I doesn't do justice to the otherwise meticulous research and master story-telling of this inspiring author. This well-written prose is fast-paced ...

The Leader's Compass: Set Your Course for Leadership Success1 review
Ed Ruggero, Dennis F. Haley

Academy Leadership Publishing, 2003

Make Yourself a Better Leader
I picked up a copy of Ruggero's and Haley's (R & H) "Leader's Compass" (2003 hardback) for supplemental reading in a recent Human Resource Management (HRM) course. It is a pleasant surprise to find a surplus of information is such a small text (only 130 total pages). The authors say early on that much of their excellent study results form their days of learning leadership in the U.S. Navy ...

Breaking Ranks2 reviews
Ed Ruggero

Pocket, 1996

Great Read, fast paced and exciting!
As an Infantry LT, I really liked the moral problems presented in the book. I enjoyed the realistic view of the 82nd Air Borne (All American) Division. In our day and age of military cutbacks, Breaking Ranks is very realistic. A must read!

The COMMON DEFENSE: THE COMMON DEFENSE1 review
Ed Ruggero

Pocket, 1992

The Common Defense
Overall good reading material from a writer who knows his subject. You can almost feel the hot Mexican sun on your neck. For those who have been in the military, you will recognize the problems Mark Isen has with the U.S. Army and Mexican Government policies. Good reading for a plane trip, it will keep you reading the entire trip.
