Photoshop CS2 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)15 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2005

Another winner in the Visual Quickstart series
I had photoshop 5 and the corresponding Visual Quickstart guide. When I upgraded to CS2, I bought this book based on my satisfaction with the previous version. I was not disappointed. The concept of these books is to provide a 1-3 page illustrated lesson on real world tasks. With photoshop, that works particularly well. I am an occasional user, and this book helps me get great results fast.

QuarkXPress 6 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2003

From a novice Quarker
Those of us who communicate in spoken English sometimes despair of technical manuals written by those who don't. This is true even for those of us who are quite literate in computer-speak. This Vistual Quickstart Guide to QuarkXPress 6 is a wonderful exception. Quark is a highly intuitive program that makes sense once one grasps the basics, and I found this an excellent reference guide to ...

Perfect step-by-step guide for learning Illustrator CS3
This manual provides someone just getting started using Illustrator with clear explanations for each menu option, tool, and function, along with step-by-step instructions on how to use them. All the other manuals inevitably assume that the reader is familiar with earlier versions of Illustrator and take too much for granted. The tool-by-tool organization and step-by-step instructions of this ...

QuarkXPress 5 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)3 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2002

Good book, cool program/software
This is a good book to learn QuarkXpress. Keyboard shortcuts are a big must and there in there. It's easy to follow; I finished it in 3-4 days. It's not as fun as Photoshop, but after reading this book QuarkXpress is a cool program once you put it to use. It cover's all the topics well, however I do feel there needs to be more information on the trapping capabilities of Quark, other than that its ...

Illustrator 8 for Windows & Macintosh, Fifth Edition (Visual QuickStart Guide)5 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Prentice Hall, 1999

The only Illustrator book you need...
If you want only one Illustrator (8) book, this is the only one you need. Quick, to the point, stuffed with visuals, easy to locate sections, tips, steps, exercises, etc. For the money, this beats those twice the price, hands down. Now if I can only return the one I paid $45 for...

QuarkXPress 4 for Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)10 reviews
Elaine Weinmann

Peachpit Press, 1998

An excellent tutor at my desk-side.
I bought this book as a last resort because my Computer Graphics professor told us we would need lots of tutoring in order to pass with good grades. I was totally "Quark illiterate" before taking this course and buying the book. Honestly, this book explains a lot more than a tedious 3 week course in class could. The book has taken me step-by-step through all the process of learning style-sheets ...

Illustrator 10 for Windows & Macintosh Visual QuickStart Guide (Visual Quickstart Guides)
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2003

There's a good chance that anyone who's studied vector-based drawing during the last decade has read an Illustrator Visual QuickStart Guide in one of its many versions. Though this book has become the standard text in many design schools, it has evolved over the years along with the program itself. And with some of the radical changes in Illustrator 10 -- such as live distortion tools, dynamic data-driven graphics, and symbols to create ...

Photoshop 6 for Windows & Macintosh (Visual QuickStart Guide)17 reviews
Elaine Weinmann, Peter Lourekas

Peachpit Press, 2001

"You'll be up & running in no-time" (seriously)
Very good resource for learning the ins-&-outs of Photoshop. Nothing in the book was a "serious waste of time", which I find in a lot of books. You'll pick-up a great deal, but still there's even more to learn. Displacement maps & all those other tidbits are left out, but thats why Colin Smith, Kelby, Monroe, & other gurus, come out with the books they do. As for those other reviewers who says ...

Most practical hands-on companion for learning QuarkXPress
If you have a basic working knowledge of desktop publishing, you'll find that Elaine Weinmann's 'QuarkXPress For Windows' is the most practical hands-on companion for learning QuarkXPress. Beginning with text input and modification, the book covers all the essentials of the new Quark in a scant (by computer-book standards) 345 pages. Every page seems to have one or more clear screen shots that ...

Great Book
This is an excellent resource for anyone learning PhotoShop. I've always liked this series of books. Straight-forward with no BS or bulk. Great job. Also, I do not know the author, or work for the publisher, so this is a totally objective review.
