Well written and worth reading
Someone suggested I read this little gem of a book and I am glad I did. I have never read anything by this author and was immediately engrossed in this story. A story well told of coming to grips with ones's life, about love, sex, dissapointment and expectations. This book is extremely well written and a most enjoyable read. I highly recommend it.

Lourdes: Font of Faith, Hope, and Charity6 reviews
Elizabeth Ficocelli

Paulist Press, 2007

Wonderful book on all aspects of Lourdes
This being the 150th anniversary of the apparition in Lourdes of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Bernadette, Paulist Press commissioned Elizabeth Ficocelli to do a book covering Lourdes - Lourdes: Font of Faith, Hope, and Charity. The author found that while there was a wealth of books on the saint and Lourdes in other languages, that there were not that many in English. This book is not just ...

SLOW DANCING1 review
ELIZABETH BENEDICT

GOLLANCZ, 1986

Slightly uncomfortable look back at the way we used to be
I don't know how I missed knowing about Benedict all these years. She's been an award-winning novelist for two decades but I only just recently discovered her. This was her first novel, nominated for the National Book Award, and it's set during and just after Reagan's election in 1980 -- which seems like the Paleolithic now (Bush having brought us up to perhaps the Neolithic). Lexi Steiner is a ...

The Practice of Deceit: A Novel22 reviews
Elizabeth Benedict

Mariner Books, 2006

LOVED this book!!
This is simply a great book - so good that I've already gone to the library to get another Benedict book. I found it particularly interesting to read about the sociopathetic behavior of the wife in this book - she was fascinating. The whole book was just a great interaction of man and wife, love and hate, truth and deceit. One of my friends is reading it now - on my recommendation - and really ...

The Joy of Writing Sex: A Guide for Fiction Writers21 reviews
Elizabeth Benedict

Holt Paperbacks, 2002

Don't let the title fool you into thinking this is about dirty books
I had the pleasure of hearing a lecture and visiting with Elizabeth Benedict, which inspired me to choose this book when I was pondering the best way to approach the sexuality component of a couple of characters in a mystery novel. I'm glad I did. Despite the title, this book is really about the joy of writing great fiction - and how to use sex as another tool for advancing plot, enhancing ...
