The Cherryh Odyssey 2 reviews Jane Fancher, Betsy Wollheim, ...
Borgo Press, 2004
An exciting moment for Cherryh fans Prominent speculative fiction journal Locus Magazine, in choosing this book as recommended reading this year, noted this is probably only the first of the books on this subject: prolific science fiction author par excellence, C. J. Cherryh. If this is so, I look forward to the next, and hope they are as well done as Edward Carmien's gathered collection of essays.
To me, diversity is one of ...

The Owl and the Pussycat 26 reviews Edward Lear
Ideals Publications, 1993
The Owl and the Pussycat ISBN 0399231935 - A quick glance through the pages of the board book edition from G. P. Putnam's Sons didn't give me high hopes for this book, but I have - once again - been surprised by what can work in a board book!
The owl and the pussycat hop in a boat and head out to sea, where Owl proposes in song. They buy a ring from a pig and are married by a turkey... and that, you have to know, ...

Random Acts of Kindness 11 reviews Conari Press
Audio Literature, 1997
The Book That Spread The Idea That Is Battling For the World's Soul In 1982, California peace activist Ann Herbert wrote on a placemat at a restuarant "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty." A fellow diner was impressed by these words, and wrote them down. Gradually they spread and inspired conversation and thought. This international bestseller greatly accelerated the process. Today there is a World Kindness Movement and many ...

Audio Literature, 1996
It's ok... Nothing spectacular to write home about. When I bought this book, I was hoping for the old radio dramas that I used to listen to when I was a kid on Sunday nights. I will say that there were some very good stories. But a few left you rather wanting.

In Visible Light 1 review Elizabeth Edwards
Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1997
Astonishing It is rather to Russ than Liz that one is wont to turn for enLIGHTenment on this lightning flex of the diasporaic and post-grumbling complex of an incipient neo Lacanianism and resurgent (one is almost tempted to suggest, insurgent) escarpment of beatitudes that linger furtively in the footnotes only to leap out and grasp by the nettles the unwary reader should s/he be so uncanny as to have ...

A Treasury of Heroes and Heroines: A Record of High Endeavour and Strange Adventure 1 review Clayton J. Edwards, Elizabeth Curtis, ...
Fredonia Books (NL), 2001
Children need heroes Some quotations from Adam Starchild's wonderful afterword to this book are appropriate: "Children today are starved for the image of real heroes. Celebrities are not the same thing as heroes. Heroes existed way before celebrities ever did, even though celebrities now outshine heroes in children's consciousness." "Worshiping celebrities leaves children with a distinctly empty feeling -- it ...

Saving Graces 70 reviews Elizabeth Edwards
audible.com
SAVING GRACES I have only recently received this book having sourced it from Amazon.com after seeing it reviewed on the Oprah show. I am currently enjoying reading it very much. The death of one's child is a particularly sensitive subject ( we have lost two sons - one a new baby in 1986 the other a 21 year old from cancer in 2006) and it provides great comfort to read how others have coped in such tragic ...

Cross a Bridge 4 reviews Elizabeth G. Macalaster, Pamela D. Greenwood
Holiday House, 1998
Children learn of structures in their own backyard. This book takes the pre-schooler easily through the history and constructions of all types of bridges. As every book should, it encourages the child to look more closely at elements of his/her everyday life and environment. It's great to see non-fiction for children. Great graphic images.

Dahmer's Not Dead: Autographed 3 reviews Edward Lee, Elizabeth Steffen
I D I Publications, 1999
Outstanding mystery from Ed Lee and Elizabeth Steffen This exciting mystery will keep you wondering until the very end. Well researched and carefully thought out, this is a fast paced thriller. So many mysteries dwell on technicalities and drone on, this one is nonstop from start to finish. Highly recommended. Fans of Lee and Steffen should check out Joe Lansdale, Richard Laymon, and Heywood Steele.

More Random Acts of Kindness 2 reviews
Audio Literature, 1996
Moving stories and ideas to share your gifts with others. It's a wonderful little book and I often felt tears of joy coming from my face.
Of course, I am also a bit prejudice to this little book -- my story is featured on page 110!!! Conari Press received about 1000 stories back in 1993 and chose only twenty-five of us to be included in the book. I was one of the twenty-five!!!
It was quite exciting to see my writing in print, and still going ...

Forth Programmer's Handbook (2nd Edition) 3 reviews Edward K. Conklin, Elizabeth D. Rather
FORTH, Inc., 1998
A good book on a low visible, but much used technology Are you interested in how the Java virtual machine works? Interested in efficient Java chips? Are you interested in the boot-up software for the latest machines from Sun, DEC and FreeBSD Unix? If so, then you SHOULD be interested in Forth. Forth is the world's premier stack-based language. Some people seem to think of Forth as "aged technology". But Forth's strength is in the ability to ...
