Age of Propaganda : The Everyday Use and Abuse of Persuasion22 reviews
Anthony R. Pratkanis, Elliot Aronson

W.H. Freeman & Company, 1991

It's very informative
here are my notes The successful persuasion tactic is one that directs and channels thoughts so that the target thinks in a manner agreeable to the communicator's point of view; the successful tactic disrupts any negative thoughts and promotes positive thoughts bout the proposed course of action. Two routes to persuasion - peripheral and central Peripheral - a message recipient devotes ...

Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me): Why We Justify Foolish Beliefs, Bad Decisions, and Hurtful Acts61 reviews

Harcourt, 2007

what a terrific book!
I'm not usually a big fan of 'self-help' books, but I was caught by the title and couldn't resist. What a terrific book! Well written and accessible, the authors do a very good job of making their many points about the mechanisms of self-justification (and why we should all care) without sounding accusatory or offending the reader. I highly recommend this book to pretty much anyone and everyone.

The Adventures of Ruthie and a Little Boy Named Grandpa1 review
Elliot Aronson

iUniverse, Inc., 2005

from child to child
A thoroughly engaging book written by a child and her grandpa for other children. This book is perfect to be read by parents to their children. The (important) lessons of tolerance and trust, wisdom and knowledge, can be focused on or not. The story is delightful (that is, full of delight), and is built on an authentic child's point of view. The references to other stories adds to the charm.

Nobody Left to Hate12 reviews
Elliot Aronson

Holt Paperbacks, 2001

Has America's Culture of Hate finally Metastasized?
As one with great respect for Professor Aronson's work; one who has read and reviewed several of his other books, and one who also respects and believes that the practical advice given here as part of his "Jigsaw technique" is both sage and useful, I still believe the Professor's solution too is but a "stop gap," or to use his own phrase, a "pump handle," solution. No one would know better ...

Social Psychology8 reviews
Elliot Aronson, Timothy D. Wilson, ...

Addison-Wesley, 1997

Great textbook and a useful reference.
I needed this book for a class and I usually trade them in or sell them at the end of the semester. I'm going to keep this one and add it to my personal library. The chapters can be long, but they are all filled with good information and very useful examples. Most of my Professor's lectures were taken directly from the contents of this book. The book also references well and lesser known ...

Readings about Social Animal,5: Midlife (Series of Books in Psychology)2 reviews

W.H. Freeman & Company, 1988

Worthwhile Social Psych Textbook
This book was one of the required text books in a Social Psychology class I took. The requirement was only a selection of experiments, but because of the interesting collection, and the supurb organization I read the entire book. Very worthwhile!

Methods of Research in Social Psychology1 review
Elliot Aronson, Phoebe Ellsworth, ...

McGraw-Hill Education (ISE Editions), 1990

Amazing book on research methods
Of all the books I have used in research methods courses, this one is by far the best. It is written in a clear and engaging style, with plenty of excellent examples. The authors cover everything from the most basic (like the difference between an independent and dependent variable) to the most advanced techniques and strategies for designing a tight, valid experiment. This book was a joy to read ...

The Social Animal11 reviews
Elliot Aronson

Worth Publishers, 2003

Where Psychology meets Culture
Aronson's emminently readable volume is packed with useful--if not always profound--insights and information that go a long way towards explaining many of the abnomal "normalities" of our own society. Although Aronson's volume is far from being preachy, it is difficult not to make certain connections within our own society that have the character of being drawn directly from Aronson's ...

The standard reference work in social psychology
Since the first edition appeared in 1935, The Handbook of Social Psychology has been considered the standard reference work in social psychology, offering historic, integrative, and penetrating surveys of the topics that constitute the discipline. All chapters are written by the world's foremost authorities, and the list of contributors continues to read like an International Who's Who in ...

Everyday Mind Reading: Understanding What Other People Think and Feel3 reviews
William Ickes, Elliot Aronson

Prometheus Books, 2003

A brilliant book
Bill Ickes has written a brilliant book in such a way that ordinary mortals can immediately grasp its content and never be bored. The book explores in rich and fascinating detail human empathy. The book is written in a way that successfully blend the subtlety of observation with the rigor of experimentation and excites the reader at almost every page. It is both an outstanding scientific and ...
