Fun counting rhymes with a friendly view of spooks.
My four year old was apprehensive at first glance at a "Halloween" book, but quickly took to the amusing counting rhymes and friendly family pictures. Each number rhyme is based on a parent and the teaching of their children. The drawings are amusing and offer plenty to challenge small curiosities. My daughter and I especially enjoy reading the parent and child roles in character. I just ...

It made us grin
This book is perfect for my daughter at the moment, a good intro chapter book, with enough text on the pages to be real reading, but also with wonderful color illustrations that she enjoyed. The author knows her horses - (we especially liked the part where Cocoa decides he looks too skinny in his portrait, and thus needs to eat more) and the four separate stories/chapters are sweet without being ...

The Best Halloween book for preschoolers out there!
Big Pumpkin is so Big in our house, it's read all the time...Oh and our son loves it too! Once my son (4 years old) discovered and fell in love with Big Pumpkin it didn't matter if it was Halloween or not. The story is nothing short of hilarious, the illustrations could not be better suited and truly compliment this book where so many others fall short. My husband and I get such a kick out of ...

The lovable duo of Cowgirl Kate and her horse, Cocoa, are back - this time for some fun (and not-so-fun) adventures in the rain. Cocoa isn't so sure about being outside during a thunderstorm, even if the thought of racing the wind sounds exciting. He may just get his chance, though - on the way back to the safety of the barn! Pretending to have a cold might give Cocoa an idea of what a sick ...

In another happy pairing of Cowgirl Kate and her horse, Cocoa, Partners contains four more stories of the antics of this spunky cowgirl and her best pal. In the first story, Cocoa is due for new horseshoes, but balks at the suggestion, declaring, "I don't want horseshoes. I want cowboy boots." When Kate tries to fit him with the boots, Cocoa realizes with disappointment that they will never fit a ...

So much fun!
This book is a joy to read. The text is light and airy and has a melodic sing-song quality. The pictures are so silly and fun, yet very detailed and beautiful. I love how the little girl wakes up and I love all the animals and people who join her on her impromptu May Day parade. This is a great spring-time or any-time book and I recommend it highly!

To life!
Illustrator Mordicai Gerstein never ceases to amuse me. Sometimes his pictures are too loosey-goosey to hold my attention (as with any of the books he's illustrated for Elizabeth Levy) while other times he bowls me over with his originality and spice (as with the adorable "Seal Mother"). I did not, on the outset, have high hopes for "Sholom's Treasure", I admit. Sure I knew the name Sholom ...

Outstanding Jewish Cinderella
This is a Jewish version of the Cinderella story. Far better than the original in my opinion, because instead of something as random as shoe size, the key to discovering the heart-stealer is her riddle and her wisdom. This book stresses the importance of learning and is a wonderful romance at the same time. Beautiful!

excellent narration
This is not only one of the best books, but the best audio to go along wiht a book. I teach 4 year olds and every year I take out this book and tape and every student is mesmorized. Soon they are begging to hear it again and singing along. It has been a hit in my classroom for about 6 years now-it is wonderful!

On Grandma's Roof
I thought this was a wonderful book for the classroom, especially since I am studying to be a teacher. Now that I'm a parent though, I think it shows the aspects of a relationship with grandparents, and some of the things that the girl did with her grandmother remind me of my childhood. It is a great way to foster a nostalgic feeling both at home and at school. A must have for teachers and ...

"Chicken strike for the soul"
I loved this book. Not only did I learn a rather obscure & bizarre jewish tradition, I fell in love with the wonderful illustrations! Though I am a christian, I will enjoy sharing this book of jewish life and practice with my grandkids. A wonderful & culturally rich tale with delightfully engaging illustrations!

This is a perfect book for two brothers!
This is a great gift to a big brother. The big brother keeps telling the little brother to follow him in a lengthy game of follow the leader. The little brother keeps asking when it will be his turn to lead. Finally, the little brother walks away from the game. Only then, does the big brother give in and agree that he too can be the leader. My sons love this book and its one of my favorites ...
