Hiking Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness3 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2001

A Must Read
If you are planning a trip to the Bob Marshall you will do yourself a great favor by purchasing this book, then wrapping it in a zip-lock bag for your journey. The book provides a comprehensive overview of every trail in the Wilderness area. It gives a succinct synopsis of each trail by describing level of difficulty, frequency of maintenance, and elevation change. The book further describes ...

Best Easy Day Hikes Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks (Best Easy Day Hikes Series)1 review
Erik Molvar, Tamara Martin

Falcon, 2007

Getting most out of minimal time
The entire series of Falcon Guides: THE BEST EASY DAY HIKES xxxxx are a delight to read and then follow. For those with a minimal amount of time to see vistas, canyons, and other scenery in parks and other areas of the country you can really experience a good variety of the locale by taking any of the hikes in these books. I have about a dozen of these books, mostly of the western US and ...

Best Easy Day Hikes Olympic National Park, 2nd (Best Easy Day Hikes Series)5 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2008

Great help for spur-of-the-moment walkers
We had little or no time to plan our short trip to the Olympic Peninsula, but we knew that the area is best enjoyed by walking into the forests, the mountains, or the beaches. This book includes descriptions of 29 hikes that do not require overnight stays, organized geographically. While there is no single map pointing out the locations of all the hikes, each geographical section has one, ...

Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks, 3rd: A Guide to More Than 60 of the Area's Greatest Hiking ...4 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2007

Decent hiking guide
Went went on several hikes listed in the book in a recent trip to Glacier. It is pretty informative, but there were a couple of shortcomings. The description for the location of trailheads could have been a little better and the description of some of the hikes we went on were a little vague. Overall, still a good book and would recommend to anyone wanting to hike in Glacier.

Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks (rev)11 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 1999

Outstanding Guide
I used this guide to plan a 16 day backpacking trip in and around Glacier National Park. I spent several months planning the trip during the winter, and of the 3 books I used, this was by far the best resource. When I left for my trip I ended up leaving all the other books at home, but I made sure that this book was in my pack. Molvar has done an outstanding job and it is apparent that he has ...

Hiking Arizona's Cactus Country, 2nd3 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2000

The green desert
I once ran into a Mauritanian from the Sahara who had been in Arizona. He scorned the Arizona desert. "It's not a real desert," said he, "there are plants." So there are. The Arizona desert is lush and diverse and, when the weather's not too hot, offers some of the best walking you will find anywhere. If it's too hot in the lowlands, go uphill and try some of the high-elevation hikes ...

Hiking Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, 2nd (Regional Hiking Series)4 reviews
Erik Molvar, Tamara Martin

Falcon, 2005

Excellent guide for hiking.
For the last 4 years, I've had a summer job at Zion and have used this guide in hiking all but 2 of the trails listed in here. The trail guides are accurate and give a person an excellent idea of how difficult a trail is along with how interesting it is. Take it with you. It will help.

Excellent book
Time is at a premium on vacation. I feel that we will see some great views in Glacier using this book and stay within our vacation time period. Thanks for writing this with all the details given. Very helpful.

Hiking Wyoming's Cloud Peak Wilderness4 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 1999

A focused book for a unique range
I lived in the Buffalo, WY area for ten years and bought this book to help plan a "homecoming" backpacking trip from afar. Erik Molvar's book covers all the classic trails in the Cloud Peak Wilderness area. In addition, the last half of the book covers hikes in the Big Horn Mountains outside the interior wilderness area. Apparently one reviewer who is not from the area missed this fact. This ...

Scenic Driving Alaska and the Yukon, 2nd (Scenic Driving Series)1 review
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2005

Very detailed information but dry and hard to read
It's pretty hard to read about every detail of a road, but if you need that information it is here. The book is entirely in black and white which was disappointing. I got much more out of The Milepost which is publised every year and is always up to date.

Hiking Olympic National Park (rev)14 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 1996

hiking book
This book was great. It gave us detailed information to the trail heads. We liked how the book was seperated into sections of the peninsula. This helped us plan our trip. We hiked 10 of the hikes. We couldn't have done it without the book.

Alaska on Foot: Wilderness Techniques for the Far North (Hiking & Climbing)3 reviews
Erik Molvar

Countryman Press, 1996

Excellent and comprehensive on important details
As always, Molvar gives us an in-depth look at what we need to know: the weather, the terrain, the animals and their normal habitats, reading from maps, packing supplies, essentials on clothing, what foods on the trail to avoid and what to watch for, how to interpret the forests, etc. There is very little in the book that a backpacker or angler would not find pertinent to his visit to Alaska. The ...

Wild Wyoming2 reviews
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 2001

A standout guide
If you want a Wyoming guide that suggests the best restaurant in Jackson, look elsewhere - if you want to find your way around some of the more remote, unserviced and extraordinary lands in Wyoming, let Wild Wyoming be your guide. I've used this book in the Red Desert and other very remote corners of Wyoming and suspect that the rare footprints I found were Molvar's - clearly he trekked every ...

Hiking Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks1 review
Erik Molvar

Falcon, 1997

Tested and Proven
I love the Falcon Guides. The Zion and Bryce Canyon edition was the first one I used and now I look for one each time I plan a visit to a national park. My husband and I are avid "day hikers" and we like to find out about the hikes available to us ahead of time so we can make the most out of our trips. This book made it easy. Each hike receives its own detailed description, a clear and easy ...

Hiking Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks: Formerly, the Trail Guide to Glacier and Waterton Lakes ...1 review
Erik Molvar

Falcon Pr Pub Co, 1996

A definite must-have for planning a backpack in Glacier!!!
I used this book to help plan a backpacking vacation in Glacier National Park during summer 1998. I was very satisfied with the information and descriptions provided by Mr. Molvar. As I knew little about the park beforehand, planning this trip would have been nearly impossible without this book. Contains text, simple maps, elevation gain/loss charts, backcountry campground info and ratings, ...
