The Tennessee Fruit & Vegetable Book (Southern Fruit and Vegetable Books)1 review
Walter Reeves, Felder Rushing

Cool Springs Press, 2002

great for intro kitchen-gardeners
I bought this book as I was beginning to plan my first kitchen garden. It's great- tells you what to plant when, the conditions the veggies like, and some good varieties. The thing I like best about this book is that most garden books are written for northern or central-us gardeners. This one tells me what will work in Memphis, and when to start it. Plus, Felder Rushing is really, really ...

Scarecrows: Making Harvest Figures and Other Yard Folks3 reviews
Felder Rushing

Storey Publishing, LLC, 1998

Great book to learn how to make scarecrows!
This book is full of information, recommendations, and tips. Plenty of how to's. This would make a great family project. I have picked out several that I want to make. There is even a little history lesson on scarecrows. The pictures are great to look at even if you decide not to make a scarecrow.

Tough Plants for Southern Gardens
Great Book! Felder Rushing has a way of sharing information in a way that is funny(sometimes) and interesting as well as informative. A great sequel to Passalong Plants which he co-authored with Steve Bender. A must have for the southern gardener.

Comprehensize Gardening Fun for Kids
The book has it all covered. From the basics and safety to creating flower or vegetable projects. Each project has a list of items you need and step-by-step instructions. Gardening Southern Style2 reviews
Felder Rushing

University Press of Mississippi, 1987

Written for anyone wanting to get something from dirt.
I feel as if I know this guy. I use the book year round. I may not remember where I left my digging fork but I know where I left Felder's book. When I kill another plant, Felder tell's me where I went wrong. When I get a complement on a plant, I give him credit. The book tells you what to plant, when to plant it, where to plant it, and when to gather the seeds or divide the plant. Whenever I ...

Tough Plants for Northern Gardens : Low Care, No Care, Tried and True Winners4 reviews
Felder Rushing, 2004

Great! Entertaining! Helpful! Real! - Highly Recommended!
This is the best gardening book I own. Orginally, I borrowed it from my local library for 6 months. I just couldn't take it back-kept renewing it and renewing it. It was indispensable. Finally, I broke down and bought 5 copies - for myself, my mother and all my friends. Mr. Rushing gives great advice for northern gardners, as we are kind of a "special" club. Also, he has a wonderful sense ...

Tough Plants for California Gardens: Low Care, No Care, Tried and True Winners (Tough Plants)3 reviews
Felder Rushing

Cool Springs Press, 2006

A gardener with a sense of humor!
Intrigued by the title, I began reading this book and found myself laughing out loud with the author's descriptions. Though a good book for anyone with an interest in gardening, with its easy-to-follow instructions, beautiful pictures and recommendations, this is also a 'good read' for those of us who are already gardening addicts. I was glad to find someone else who couldn't pass up an ...

Tough Plants for Florida Gardens1 review
Felder Rushing

Cool Springs Press, 2005

Makes the best housewarming gift
This is the book that I would write if I could manage to string together more than two intelligible sentences. I have been a fan of Felder Rushing since being given a signed copy of "Passalong Plants" back in 1993, and this book certainly did not let me down. The style of writing reminds me of a casual conversation with a friendly neighborhood gardener who knows more about plants than I will ever ...

Alabama & Mississippi Gardener's Guide1 review
Felder Rushing, Jennifer Greer

Cool Springs Press, 2005

Highly recommended
This is a handy reference for Alabama and Mississippi gardeners and one that you'll refer to again and again. It is especially great for beginning gardeners who are often confused with the large variety of plants profiled in general gardening guides. The plants profiled here are wise choices for AL and MS although some will perform better in the northern areas of the state and vice-versa. ...

The Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Book (Southern Fruit and Vegetable Books)1 review
Walter Reeves, Felder Rushing, 2002

Good book for specific info only
Get this book if you want specific information on varieties of vegetables that do well in Georgia and specific planting dates for seed and transplants. Otherwise, this book is of marginal use. There is a lot of repeated information about soil amendments and a lot of vague references to pests. I would have liked to seen a section devoted to identifying and controlling pests and disease. I get ...

The North Carolina Fruit & Vegetable Book (Southern Fruit and Vegetable Books)1 review
Walter Reeves, Felder Rushing, 2002

Not written for North Carolina.....
I purchased this book specifically because of the "North Carolina" in the title. However, except for six pages about N. C. frost dates, rain fall and hardiness zones, I've found nothing in this book that is specific to gardening in North Carolina (not to say that it isn't good, basic advice about southern gardening). I feel cheated!

50 Great Herbs, Fruits, and Vegetables for Georgia1 review
James A. Fizzell, Walter Reeves, ...

Cool Springs Press, 2004

A basic guide for Georgia gardeners.
This is a handy book for the beginning gardener. You get planting, watering, and fertilizing tips on 14 herbs, 26 veggies, and 10 fruits that grow fairly well in Georgia. The pictures are nice, and the planting tips are, for the most part, accurate. I took issue with some of the entries, though. For example, the section on apples failed to discuss some of the better varieties now on the market, ...
