The Usborne Internet-Linked First Encyclopedia of Our World6 reviews
Felicity Brooks

Usborne, 2002

AWESOME!
This is a beautiful book that encourages children to learn about their world. Information is provided in bits, making it easy for children to digest. In addition, the internet links provide unlimited learning on the topics in the book. As far as the person who complained that they showed a photo of NYC without the World Trade Centers, I think you need to be aware that the book was published in ...

The Great World Search (Great Searches - New Format)1 review
Kamini Khanduri

Usborne Books, 2005

Best in the series!
This is our favorite Great Search book by Usborne. It has a few puzzle within a puzzle activities for older users, though it is still a simple and enjoyable search book for toddlers. Unless you plan to do every page with your child (all day, every day!), it may be best to give this to a toddler or child who can read. My four year old reads well enough to do the searches, but has not yet read ...

Great Resourse for a younger child
I have been homeschooling my 5 year old using the Usbourne Children's Encyclopedia. Great intro to social studies and geography. I just use one page at a time and make up a list of questions that I use afterwards to see if he remembers and if not we discuss the topic such as how are rainbows made again until he understands. Great for his attention span at this age. After this book, I plan to ...

Usborne The Great History Search (Great Searches New Format)4 reviews
Kamini Khanduri

Usborne Books, 2005

Fun and also instructive
Detailed illustrations of lives of people in various periods. Illustrations are quite fun to see. Close up of characteristic figures are closed up with descriptions. I bought this book for my 10-year-old son, who loves to play "Age of Empire" and becomes curious about history. He loves it because of the closed up pictures even though he can't read English yet. The illustrations convey the ...

Tales of King Arthur2 reviews

7th grade reluctant readers LOVE it!
I use this book as the last thing I do with my 7th graders. They study the Middle Ages in social studies and this is a great cross-curricular activity. My students are restless and ready to be out of school for the summer at this time of year, but they LOVE this book. Many, many of my reluctant readers tell me every year how much they enjoy this book - even if they have always hated reading.

Usborne Lift and Look Farms (Lift and Look Board Books)1 review
Felicity Brooks

Usborne Books, 2005

Fantastic farm book for toddlers
This lift-the-flap book of farm scenes asks you to find (and count, sometimes) hidden animals on each page. There is lots to talk about in each piture. Nearly every kind of farm animal is covered. The best book of it's kind I've seen.

Both my kids loved this book as toddlers we would read it every night and they would always smile as they searched for that puppy!

The Usborne Book of Living Long Ago (Explainers)1 review
Felicity Brooks, Helen Edom

Educational Development Corporation, 1994

Packed with information and pictures.
My children (age 5 & 7) are enjoying this book, though it would be a fun book for older kids as well. (I, too, am learning some things as we read it together for Home school). Each page can take us 15 minutes to get through due to all of the colorful pictures and TONS of fun facts about life long ago. Every few pages there is a simple art project the kids can do related to the page. They have ...

Usborne Lift and Look Diggers (Lift-and-Look Board Books)1 review

Great book for little boy into trucks!
I gave this to my 2-year-old for his 2nd birthday and he loves it, but then again he loves anything having to do with trucks. The lift-the-flap features are fun, and enjoys trying to find the puppy on each page. Cute book.

Jason & the Argonauts (Paperback Classics)2 reviews
Felicity Brooks

Usborne Books, 2005

Used for 7th grade book report
This book is a Greek myth retold by Felicity Brooks. This book takes place during ancient times where Greeks believed several gods shaped life and everything in it. There were fearful monsters land, sea, and air . Uncharted land, mysterious happenings, and untold riches. This is about a man named Jason who wants to restore his father's honor by retaking his kingdom that was taken by his evil ...

Trucks: Lift-and-look (Lift-and-Look Board Books)1 review
Felicity Brooks

Usborne Books, 2005

Great book, but requires adult participation
Our two year old is completely consumed with trucks and cars. The book is great for that. However, he doesn't understand the concept of flip ups on the pages, so he tends to tear them. For that reason, I need to review the book and pages with him. Otherwise, he'd have the pages ruined within a short period of time. He is not a distructive little boy. He's quite gentle. It's just the flip ...

Part "Seek & Find," Part Logic Puzzle and Part Story
I bought this book for my eight year old because of the gorgeous illustrations. I'm not much at all for seek and find books, but I thought he would like it. I found, however, that when he and I sat down together we became completely cuaght up in the book. It is rather difficult, but I guess some kids are better at it than others because Dylan loved it and did much better than I did. ...

Everyday Words3 reviews

Usborne Books, 2006

Teh usborne book of everyday words
I think this book is fantastic and should be kept by every parent with little children, even for my own child who is now only one and half year old. She loves this book at first sight. The pictures are bright and look real in the busy everyday environment. Everytime you read it, you discover some new things. The paper quality is good and it is not easy to be damaged by my baby. The problem now ...

The Usborne Internet-Linked Children's Encyclopedia (First Encyclopedias)3 reviews

E.D.C. Publishing, 2003

Excellent resource!
I'm a homeschooling mom and discovered Usborne books about 1 month ago. The internet linked books are fabulous because they include links to websites. These websites have so much information to supplement what we are learning. For example, my 10 yr old and I are learning abour Space this week. We've been reading about the space shuttle and astronauts. In addition, once we went to the Usborne ...
