God Emperor of Dune 150 reviews Frank Herbert
Putnam Pub Group, 1981
The best book in the series This is without a doubt the best book in the whole series, even better than the first. It is amazing to see the world that the God Emperor created and why he has created it in such a way. Its very hard to put down this book once you started reading it. This book could not have been better written.

Dune Messiah (Dune Chronicles, Book 2) 177 reviews Frank Herbert
Ace, 1987
A great follow-up for fans of Dune! Dune Messiah is the second book from Frank Herbert in the Dune Series. Paul Atreides is now the Emperor/Duke of Arrakis with his Fremen wife Chani and his Imperial concubine, Irulan. In Dune Messiah, the reader starts to see the internal struggle that Paul battles throughout the book. A battle between trying to prevent the jihad from his fremen followers that he sees so much in his future vision ...

Dune 1026 reviews Frank Herbert
Books on Tape, Inc., 1997
An excellent book for any fan of science fiction! When I started off reading Dune 3-4 years ago, I gave up about 200 pages in just because it seemed too complex to me at the time. Years later, I came back to it again because the summertime is quite boring with no job/school.
Suffice to say, not only did I understand what was going on a lot better, I actually loved the book in the end.
Dune is set on a planet known as Arrakis, which ...

Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry 2 reviews Frank Herbert Attix
Wiley-Interscience, 1986
V Good Text There is a dearth of modern texts that treat this realm with due respect anymore-or possibly it is that other texts are aimed at larger -and so less rogorous-markets. Thank heavens someone is still publishing books like this. Attix has done a commendable job here. He pays attention to detail and accuracy. His inclusions are commendable-especially when he covers the Kramer spectrum-you don't get ...

The Dosadi Experiment 31 reviews Frank Herbert
Tor Books, 2002
Frank Herbert's greatest work. One of the best Sci Fi novels of all time Dune was very good, but this is the best book Frank Herbert wrote, and one of the best sci fi novels of all time. I have never understood why it isn't better known. If you like Herbert, if you like Sci Fi, read this. There are already some excellent reviews here, so I need say no more.

The White Plague 30 reviews Frank Herbert
Putnam, 1991
Riveting I bought this book new back in the early 80's and just saw it is now back in print -- good news. I've been reading science fiction for nearly 50 years and this is still one of my favorites. It doesn't rely on gratuitous sex and violence to achieve a perfectly believable, white knuckled terror. I'd label it speculative fiction. Misogyny, meet extinction.

The Notebooks of Frank Herbert's Dune 2 reviews Frank Herbert
Perigee Trade, 1988
Dune Wisdom This book puts the nuggets of wisdom in Frank Herbert's Dune series all in one place. Compiled in a thin, paperback book, you won't have to search for the "litany against fear" or other wise sayings. Chock full of life truths and insights into human behavior, it's best taken a quote at a time, digested with a bit of thought afterward.

The Road to Dune 29 reviews Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson, ...
Tor Books, 2005
Good Summer Read I must admit that I'm not even CLOSE to finishing this fine book but what I have read of it I do like. Brian has taken up the mantle of his famous father and been able to cope with the inevitable comparisons between the two styles of writing. Both are fine authors in their own right, I recommend any of these books in the continuing Dune universe.

The Dragon in the Sea 7 reviews Frank Herbert
Tor Books, 2008
Claustrophobia Dragon in the Sea is quite a departure from Dune. It's more akin to The Santaroga Barrier (my favorite Herbert book) in Herbert starts with a few ordinary events and then turns them into psychological dramas. For this book, he goes one step further and leaves off the chapter divisions to create a literary claustrophobia to match the claustrophic conditions of the submarine. Some of the ...

HELLSTROM'S HIVE 13 reviews FRANK HERBERT

Fascinating In Oregon, filmmaking entomologist Nils Hellstrom establishes the human hive in which 50,000 peoplewill live together based on how insects work as a unit regardless of size. The Agency is concerned about the influence of the Hive and has begun spying on the entity especially wanting to steal a metallurgical technology for their personal gain.
