Wonderful resource for GA birdwatchers
This book is an excellent resource for the Georgia bird enthusiast. It is perfect for identifying the birds we sometimes tend to overlook...the ones in our own back yards! I absolutely recommend this guide.

Florida Birds
I spend the cold English Winters in Florida and wanted to be able to recognize all the lovely Florida birds, especially the ones I feed in my garden. This is first class, its easy to find the bird you are looking for and plenty of information on it. A great book.

I'm buying my second copy now...
...to give as a gift, because I'm so pleased with it. Unlike some of the other reviewers, who seem to have a great deal of expertise and several bird books at-hand, I'm just a casual observer of the visitors to my backyard feeder. This is the first bird book (ahem, field guide) for me, and I don't see that I'll need to seek other titles any time soon. As with most Dorling-Kindersley ...

DK ADULT, 2001

Think of it as a mini encyclopedia on birds of eastern North America
There have been over 800 species of birds identified in North America. This includes all those that breed there or have ever been proven to have visited, even very rarely. This book limits itself to eastern NA(east of the 100th meridan, roughly the Mississippi)and north of Mexico plus ajacent islands and seas within 200 miles of the coast. All birds have been documented by the American Ornithologists' ...

Apparently still a secret
As a 40+ year novice birdwatcher, and incurable lover of books, I have acquired numerous field guides over the years. Raised on Peterson, in recent years I have enjoyed the Audubon guides by Farrand. Looking for something newer, I was assured that "The Sibley Guide to Birds" was now the king of the hill. Next to Sibley on my dealer's bookshelf was this Alsop. I already knew the ...

All about Tennessee Birds3 reviews
Fred J., III Alsop

Sweetwater Press, 2003

Very informative
I am a beginning "backyard" bird-watcher and this book was very informative. I was easily able to identify many species by the pictures and descriptions in the book. I really enjoyed that this book was specifically about Tennessee birds. I didn't have to go through endless pages about birds that aren't even in my region. Would suggest to any Tennessee bird-watcher.

All about Louisiana Birds1 review
Fred J., III Alsop

Sweetwater Press, 2003

Good only for backyard birds, cover missleading.
Even though there is a pelican on the cover, there are no pelicans, egrets, cranes or other swamp birds that you would expect to find in a book called All About Louisisana Birds. The book was very informative on birds you would might see in your backyard expecially if you put out feed. It also had helpful advice on types of food, housing, what to plant, ect. However, this book could have been ...

Backyard Birds of North America2 reviews
Fred J. Alsop III

Crane Hill Publishers, 2003

More Please
I first saw this book at the Cradle of Forrestry in Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. It is a beautiful book with an excellent format - sharp colorful pictures, useful information, and a record keeping section. I wish there was an edition for northeastern birds. I would keep it by my kitchen window!

Birds of North America: Life Histories of More Than 930 Species6 reviews
Fred J. Alsop

DK ADULT, 2001

Tremendous Value and Information
This book has more information than any other book I own. You will find birds listed here that you won't find elsewhere and the information offered is second to none. Considering the cost of this book, the value is tremendous. You will find common names, scientific names, very specific identification notes and interesting facts on all the birds listed. In the upper right hand corner of each page ...
