Racing Worm Brothers1 review
Gary Barwin

Topeka Bindery, 1998

A story that will make children squirm, giggle and use their imaginations
This book is one that will make little children squirm, laugh and use their imaginations. Aaron and Ryan are two boys that want pets. Because Aaron suffers from allergies, he is unable to have any of the usual pets, so his only pet is a fish. When Ryan tells him that he cannot pet his fish, Aaron objects, saying that he wants a pet he can touch. This prompts Ryan to suggest they each get a pet ...

The Mud Game
Gary Barwin, Stuart Ross

Mercury Pr, 1995

The lovely suburban streets are quiet, until one day the lawn of the philosopher is stolen, strange rains come, and little Celia makes a crashing announcement in class that closes her school. The Mud Game is a charming, surreal, entertaining novel about the way television took over our lives one strange day but left us still singing.

Big Red Baby
Gary Barwin

Mercury Press, 1998

In these short fictions, Gary Barwin works his surreal magic again: a businessman's heart phones him from the twentieth floor; a man sleeps with the tooth fairy; someone orders an inflatable T.S. Eliot from an infomercial. This is Barwin at his best - funny, elegant, and scintillating: a chicken suit for the soul.

Frogments from the Frag Pool: Haiku After Basho1 review
Gary Barwin, Derek Beaulieu

Mercury Press, 2005

Tour de Force Of Visuals & Haiku Based on A Famous Poem
The authors have twisted Basho's Frog Haiku into an outstanding collection of witty puns, permutations, and visual poems. The poems are a great read of the authors' creative playfulness and the visual poems formed by hand drawn letters have a wry sense of humor. It's not a usual haiku collection but one that engages the reader in visual/verbal contemplation. I highly recommend it.

Raising Eyebrows2 reviews
Gary Barwin

Coach House Press, 2001

Raising Eyebrows beat Bean Spasms!
Barwin is the most exciting poet to come out of Canada since Ted Padgett and Ron Berrigan moved to Toronto to start the New Toronto School in the 60s. The poems in this engaging, inciteful, and energetic collection build on the work created by bpMcCaffery and Steve Nichol of the TISH Research Group and the visionary free-form poetics espoused by Don Bissett and Bill Coles. Barwin's poems are ...

I bought it for my nephew
Whenever I see a new Gary Barwin picture book out, I buy it. My nephew loves his zany humour.

Magic Mustache3 reviews
Gary Barwin

Topeka Bindery, 1999

Old Story With A New Twist
This book is hilarious. It takes the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and twists it around. The play on words throughout the book are easy enough for kids to understand and funny enough to have even adults chuckling. The illustrations are great too. Definite two thumbs up.
