Introduction to Compiler Construction With Unix (Prentice-Hall Software Series) 3 reviews Alex T. Schreiner, H. George Friedman
Prentice Hall, 1985
definitive LEX/YACC reference This book uses LEX and YACC to write a "realistic" language. It's approach is very practical, not much theory. If you want theory, then go read the "Dragon" book (Aho, et al.). It covers the error handling in YACC in detail and shows how to read the error output that is generated. It explains shift/reduce and reduce/reduce errors and how to recover from them. Like I said, it is very practical and ...

Steer well clear Seeing as they've demonstrated their ignorance by incorrectly using AD in great big letters on the cover (Anno Domini="in the year of the lord"), what more can you expect?

Mind Bafflers 1 review George J. Summers
Sterling, 1997
Fun to solve puzzles a challenge for most any one. Savored this book page by page. Great fun to work together (or against) friends on the internet to see who can get the answer fastest. One of my friends occasionally solved the puzzles by writing a computer program. I told him that was cheating but he had great fun doing it. The puzzles involving adding or multiplying words to get other words were amazing and popular in our group.

America's Secret War 67 reviews George Friedman
Little, Brown Book Group, 2004
Excellent view behind the scenes George Friedman gives us a rare look behind the scenes of America's fight with radical Islam. It was fascinating to get a look at how the U.S. viewed acts of terror and terrorists in general before and after 9/11. Friedman goes into detail that you simply cannot get from watching the news or reading papers. For example, Friedman lays out many reasons for invading Iraq other than WMD's. These ...

The Intelligence Edge: How to Profit in the Information Age 3 reviews George Friedman, Meredith Friedman, ...
Crown, 1997
Outstanding Resource and Reference Book As an investment banking anaylst, one of my primary jobs is build financial models of the companies we evaluate. One of the most underrated and (in my view) more important element of my work comes when we perform due diligence and understand the soundness of the assumptions we build into our models. Most analysts (in my experience) are too infatuated with their sophisticated spreadsheets and ...

Future of War, The: Power, Technology and American World Dominance in the 21st Century 15 reviews George Friedman
Crown, 1997
Technological Determism This is an extremely well written book on technological determism. It shows the development of weapon systems through centuries. And shows how these systems have been replaced by new technology. Technological determism advocates that technology controls the development of society, and that this process is unstoppable. It is closely related to the school of realism. Even if you disagree with ...

Coming War With Japan 6 reviews George Friedman, Meredith Lebard
St Martins Pr, 1992
Too Bad It's out of Print Even though this book is getting older, it's worth finding it at your library and giving it a read. The Friedmans see the world returning to more classic, zero-sum balance-of-power relationships in the post-Cold War context. This is even the case as regional, multilateral, and global international institutions develop. Since the nation-state system is still the most legitimate actor in these ...

Research & Education Association, 2005
Buyer Beware this book has errors! This book was rushed too print too quickly. Purchased this latest version for my daughter. Very disappointed to find two math errors errors in the first section alone. In fact the very first math problem (a very simple problem) is incorrect. Given this is the first math section how many more errors are there? My daughter doesn't trust the answers which defeats the purpose of the book. Details ...
