Building Doors & Gates: Instructions, Techniques and over 100 Designs9 reviews
Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Stackpole Books, 1999

The problem is...
I think that the reviews of this book are indicative of a typical problem of books of this type. The publishers take a book on a certain aspect of woodworking and pad it out with a lot of superfluous "basic woodworking" type filler, making it appear to the casual observer as if it is a detailed "how to" book. Buried within this padded and filled book is a good overview of English style gates ...

Carving Totem Poles & Masks1 review
Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Sterling, 1991

Totem Pole Critic
Very detailed diagrams and helpful pictures. Steps to produce results were not overly detailed yet specific enough to leave out guess work. The intro to each project gives a significant background of the history of the carvings. MAJOR COMPLAINT:Purchasing this book based on the title was found to be very dispointing since very little information or projects were on Totem poles.

Making Marble-Action Games, Gadgets, Mazes & Contraptions: Designs for 10 Outlandish, Ingenious and Intricate ...5 reviews
Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Stackpole Books, 1999

OK for ideas, but not for projects
I was disappointed as well. I expected projects I could build, but nothing struck me as worth the time. The basic ideas are OK, marble rollers, and so on. But I would only use this stuff as a departure point for my own designs.

Outdoor Woodwork: 16 Easy-To-Build Projects for Your Yard & Garden1 review
Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Storey Publishing, LLC, 2002

I love the projects especially the Rabbit Hutch!
I bought this book for the Rabbit Hutch only. The rabbit hutch is exactly what I wanted. Easy access, simple to build, and the rabbit will love it. If you put legs on it, it could be used inside with a litter pan underneath, which is what I plan to do with it. But I'm also going to make one for outside as well because it is made so that it's easy to move around. The other projects include a ...

Making Wooden Mechanical Models: 15 Designs With Visible Wheels, Cranks, Pistons, Cogs, and Cams4 reviews
Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Popular Woodworking Books, 1995

Making Wooden Mechanical Models
This book is great. I am looking at it from a teachers point of view. With our highly mechanized world, I find that students sometimes do not understand the priciples behind some of our most simple machines. Examples might be a lever, inclined plane, pully, or gears and cams. This book not only teaches about the make-up of machines, it teaches them a lesson in woodworking craftsmanship. In ...

Alan Bridgewater, Gill Bridgewater

Storey Publishing, LLC, 2001

I can do that!
If beautifying your world with stone and concrete is your goal, this book is a must. The author did a fine job of eliciting interest in a project by showing wonderful color photos of the finished product first. Then he supplies photos and diagrams of each step while describing it in down-to-earth fashion. He adds some photos of historical works to show what can be done and how long a quality job ...
