Excellent Book - A Must Read!
Very nicely written and a pleasure to read. I cannot put this book down due its wonderful content. I highly recommend this book to anyone (Muslim or Non-Muslim alike). Prophets of Allah all had the same message which-if understood today-will make all our worries go away! And, the world will be a place of peace and love.

A True Guide to the Language of Hafiz
For anyone interested in understanding the depth of the poetry of Hafiz, Clarke's translations are a must. His comprehensive knowledge of Sufism and the hidden meanings in Hafiz' poetry is superior to any renderings that have come before these translations or after. Well worth reading whether for pleasure or research.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. It is an excellent tool for those who are interested or study the US Foreign Policy, Congressional politics, interest/ ethnic/ lobby groups and their influence on the decision making process in the US as well as politics of the Caucasus and Caspian region. The latter is especially well described and detailed in the book. Ambassador Pashayev served as ...

great translation of Hafiz's gems
The masnavi is the longer, freer cousin of the more constrained ghazal. It can be virtually unlimited in length and rhyms AABBCC. Hafez has only a handful masnavies compared to his nearly 500 ghazals. Two of them are well known to native speakers: "the wild deer" and "the winebringer," the first one even put to song by a popular pop singer. Smith does an admirable job of catching the ...

Business on books
I am NOT against the business. I was here to read some books and to pick up some references. To my disappointment , these books were not available. If these are mere Ads, they are no use to writers. We writers/freelance journalists are already introduced to the maximum nos of fresh & old books. I WISH BOOKS WERE AVAILABLE HERE. BUT THEN YOU ARE DOING THE BUSINESS. Meesaq Husain

excellent & true translation
This sure is a hard-to-find book. But i got lucky (twice) with the booksellers in the Bay Area. And i'm so glad. Having seen many translations and renditions of Hafez in English, i totally enjoyed Smith's light-verse, accurate, and correct rhyming translation that is true to the original Persian (my native tongue) line for line. The book contains about 60 select ghazals (poems) from the ...

Hafiz' Calendars of Beauty
As a devotee of the Sufi poet Hafiz, it is with sacred wonder that I hang a calendar that depicts the art and poetry of his era. This is my second year to get a calendar and yes, of course, I had to open it right away when I received it! Thanks to the terrific artists and those who chose the poetry to go with it.

Gorgeous, luminous, humorous,
The poetry of Hafiz is beautiful, delicate and hits you right between the eyes. I came to Hafiz via Rumi and while I can't easily tell you that one or the other is better, it is Hafiz I go back to most often for his purity, love, enthusiasm, humor, grit and how he can grab you when and where you dont expect. The poems on this CD are read with a seductive love that suits the content, every poem ...

A happy bit of poetry,
Life is fun, or should be, and meant to be lived in love is the message of these poems, those who don't think so are being deceived. Hafiz was a main influence on the third and final stage of Goethe's writing and ideas. When you find that one thing you better go after it with a passion like your hair is on fire. They also demonstrate the diversity of thought in the Persian influenced area of the ...

Nothing Better
I've read other translators of Hafiz, Rumi, etc. and while I do not speak the original language, I cannot imagine a more truthful and present-time translation of Hafiz totally in keeping with the spirit of his words. I am a poet myself and the good ones make meanings that transcend their own words. Ladinsky taps into Hafiz's meanings and the joy that bubbles up from it is contagious. Every ...

An important translation.
To get a deeper insight into Hafiz, or any significant work of literature in a foreign language, more than one translation is usually necessary. Reading this translation by Le Galliene helped me get a better grip on this sublime poetry by this incredible sufi poet. Landinsky is also excellent. Hafiz is too profound to be captured completely by any one translator and I found reading both of these ...

HAFEZ AT LAST IN ENGLISH!
At last an English translation of Hafez that isn't a "version" based on someone else's translation (from German perhaps, or Victorian English, or the famous but rather unwieldy Col. Wilberforce Clarke crib), or like the versions that take a line or two and "channel" a new poem almost out of whole cloth, which pretend to be translations but are really original, warm and toasty spiritual takes, but ...

Divine Hafiz
A lifelong fan (dare I say devoted?) to Hafiz and his many works, this book is a must have. Nothing compares to reading Hafiz in Persian, but this book comes very, very close. Hafiz is enlightening, spiritual, refreshing, and above all, very full of wisdom. His works are truly magical, especially considering after all these years, people are still compelled to his work and mystified by his ...

Thomas Rain Crowe is a poet, translator, essayist, editor, and author of six book of original poetry. In Wineseller's Street we are treated to the best of his literary sensitivity and language skills in presenting the poetic Hafez showcased within the traditions of Sufism and Persian literature rended up for an English speaking readership. 67: O rich man, I have come from Paradise to bring you ...

An exceptional book by an exceptional scientist!
As a Biochemistry graduate student, I am constantly on the lookout for books which could help me in my research. When this particular book came out, I didn't have second thoughts in purchasing it and my decision was amply rewarded. I am greatly impressed by the way Dr. Hafiz Ahmed presented his work. The principles/theories are outlined followed by the step-by-step experimental procedures ...

First one must understand that to translate means to change. With that in mind all the Persian poetry translated is changed poetry. Ms. Bell's book is exceptional because it has both Farsi (Persian) and English. To truly understand Bell's Hafiz book you must not only be able to read Farsi and English or you must be conscious enough to "understand" the "meaning" of the poems. Since most people do ...

I highly recommend this Handbook for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Not only does it address historical, religious, and cultural issues, but it does so in readily accessible prose and format. The Best Little Book on Survey Research!
How can I say that this is the best little book on survey research, and yet give it only four stars? Simply stated, I strongly object to the notion of linking compensation to customer-survey results. Notwithstanding, this is the book that I buy and give to people who want to conduct effective surveys, know where their companies stand, and improve their competitive positions. It is a gem!

Beautiful and celebratory poetry
Only knowing Hafiz, through this book I am not in a position to judge whether the book does him justice or whether too much of the tranlator's own poetical and mystical nature has come into play. What I can say is, that I truly enjoyed reading it as many of the poems appealed to my heart and provoked some reflection of what we do. Like this short poem called "Find a better job": Now That All ...
