Make Room! Make Room!20 reviews
Harry Harrison

Orb Books, 2008

A good read
I like this book , I like the movie Soylent Green, too -- which tells a very different story. They complement one another, but they are by no means the same. Harrison gives us a gritty tour through a believable overcrowded New York in a run-down world that could have been. Still could be..... I bought the Orb edition currently on sale at Amazon. Funny thing - the plot turns on a murder ...

Melissa Harrison, Jr., Harry H. Harrison

Workman Publishing Company, 2006

Astounding.......
Words like "marvelous," "remarkable," "wonderful," "astounding," "incredible," don't even begin to describe this great book. It really touched home. A must read for every mother or son.

A Stainless Steel Trio7 reviews
Harry Harrison

Tor Books, 2003

Pleasure Unalloyed
What a joy it is to read (or reread) the Stainless Steel Rat books. I hope that the whole series will become available again so I can fill in any I may have missed. Harrison is one of the very few writers able to combine humor with good science fiction. You can usually just hand one to a friend and say please read the first page and if you're not hooked, quit.

Father to Daughter: Life Lessons on Raising a Girl12 reviews
Harry H. Harrison Jr.

Workman Publishing Company, 2003

A fun little book for fathers-to-be
I received this book in the mail recently and read it in about 20 minutes. It is about 300 or so short pieces of advice for fathers of girls in various stages of development. The quotes are variously witty, funny, instructive, and serious on the challenge men face in raising healthy girls to be self-assured young women. Two thumbs up.

Mother to Daughter3 reviews
Melissa Harrison, Jr., Harry H. Harrison

Workman Publishing Company, 2005

Amazing......
The book is pure GENIUS. It makes you cry, laugh and learn at the same time. I think every mother of a daughter should be forced by law to have a copy. It's short enough that you will actually read it cover to cover, and its wisdom peirces though you as if you didn't have a choice but to grow. This is the "best book ever written on mothers and daughters." And it's short enough to read in one ...

1001 Things Every College Student Needs to Know: (Like Buying Your Books Before Exams Start) (1001 Things)3 reviews
Harry H. Harrison

Thomas Nelson, 2008

Valuable Information for Preparing a College Student for Staying in College
Harrison's focus is different from the usual college advice books in that the focus of his book is on actually GRADUATING college. Harrison quotes the dismal statistics of how many students who start college actually finish within six years. Then he gives advice on how to ensure that you (or your child) is one of those who does finish. Parents may especially appreciate his blunt advice, such ...

Father to Son: Life Lessons on Raising a Boy22 reviews
Harry H. Harrison Jr.

Workman Publishing Company, 2000

Great Pocket Book
At first, I thought this was a silly gift my husband received when I was pregnant with our son. I decided to take a look at it, and its such a beautiful book. It has very simple ideas and advice, but very important life lessons. The whole book is full of common sense ideas, but they are things that get overlooked and forgotten. Every dad should be forced to read this as part of ...

The Stainless Steel Rat Wants You! (Stainless Steel Rat, Book 3)4 reviews

Spectra, 1988

Building A Better Rat Trap
The title of the latest escapades of the "Rat" is a bit of a stretch of the imagination as it suggests images of vintage WWI era posters of Uncle Sam recruiting enlistments for the United States military. What actually occurs, though, is that after freeing his family members form various forms of incarceration the Stainless Steel Rat plays upon the gratitude for a good deed done and gains their ...

The Stainless Steel Rat Joins The Circus (Stainless Steel Rat)14 reviews
Harry Harrison

Tor Science Fiction, 2000

The SSRat not on his highest wire.
Throughout the years, I have always been a rat fan at heart. I read and re-read all of James diGriz's! adventures over and over. (for a factual statement, his last name is spelled like that! diG not DiG!) They are a master mind of work, until this one came. It's a great book with a good story line, but it has so many errors and loop-holes, you could drive a station wagon through them. But, if we ...

Rat Fans REJOICE!
Whaddaya mean this is the worst of the bunch? Now, I'm a serious rat fan; I've read almost all the SSR books, and this one fits in very nicely! It's got a fairly good plot, altheough characters don't really need to pop out of nowhere like that.

The Hammer and the Cross20 reviews
Harry Harrison

Tor Books, 1994

Great, Excellent, Fantasic
I normally dislike alternate history. But this proved that people can pull this genre off. If you come to this book looking for stories about the Norse gods you won't find them. Instead, you find an Englishman who falls in among Viking raiders . He meets a Way-man(i.e. Asatruar) who tells him about the Asier and Vanir (Norse gods). His life from that point is then touched by his patron god ...

STAINLESS STEEL RAT FOR PRESIDENT, THE (Stainless Steel Rat Books)9 reviews
Harry Harrison

Spectra, 1988

One of the funniest books in a very amusing series
Harry Harrison does comedy better than almost any other Science Fiction writer, and the Stainless Steel Rat - Slippery Jim Di Griz - is probably his funniest creation. This is my personal favourite of the Stainless Steel Rat books. After one adventure too many, Slippery Jim, his beautiful but slightly murderous wife Angelina, and their two sons decide to have a rest on a backward planet. ...
