The Emerging Church: Vintage Christianity for New Generations 42 reviews Dan Kimball
Zondervan/Youth Specialties, 2003
All church leaders need to be more sensitive to this movement. In my role of church leadership, the missing 18-35 age group has been a major concern. I can also identify with this mindset because I'm a Gen-Xer too. I do also agree that this approach to worship gatherings cannot just be thrust upon an established congregation, especially in the South. It is nice to realize that in the South we usually get these things last, so reading this book gave me a ...

Color Outside the Lines 6 reviews Howard G. Hendricks
Thomas Nelson, 2002
So you think you're not creative? Dr. Hendricks has produced a marvelous book that captures an all too often missing ingredient from the skill sets of today's leaders: creativity. In the author's words, this book is about "the newness of life in Christ, the creative, redemptive side of our salvation." Since The Fall, man has been steadily drifting farther and farther away from God. Along with this distancing is the decline of ...

Failure: The Back Door to Success 1 review Erwin W. Lutzer
Moody Press, 1975
Extremely Encouraging The book "Failure: The Back Door to Success" is an excellent resource. This book is very encouraging and informative, and one of the best nonfiction books I've read. Erwin Lutzer is very clear and concise. He doesn't beat around the bush when criticism is needed (it often is), and gives credit where credit is due. A must-read!

As Iron Sharpens Iron 5 reviews Howard Hendricks, William Hendricks
Moody Publishers, 1999
The Marvel of Mentoring I have yet to be disappointed with anything written by Howard Hendricks. In this book, he does a superb job of presenting the tremendous worth and transforming power of a mentoring relationship between two men. While these principles would also apply to a woman-to-woman relationship, Hendricks is writing to provide support for the Christian men's movement "Promise Keepers." There are two ...

Marriage Takes More Than Love 4 reviews Jack Mayhall, Carole Mayhall
Navpress, 1978
MEN ARE NOT LIKE WOMEN!!!!!!!!! I WAS STRUCK BY THE WAY WE ARE DESCRIBED: MEN AS MICROWAVES AND WOMEN AS OVENS. PRETTY MUCH TO THE POINT. HELP ME TO NOT PUSH MY MAN INTO BEING WHAT HE IS NOT. WISH MORE MEN WOULD READ IT SO THEY COULD UNDERSTAND THAT WE WOMEN WORK DIFFERENTLY AND THAT IT IS OKAY AND VERY NORMAL NOT TO BE THE SAME. GOD HAS CREATED US SO WONDERFULLY- WE SHOULD BE COMMITTED TO ENJOYING THOSE DIFFERENCES. ...

Great information I used this book as a training tool for Sunday School teachers in a small church. We found it to be excellent material. It is to the point and doesn't pull any punches about the fact the teaching is a committment. Should be required reading for everyone who wants to teach.
