Foundation's Edge (Foundation Novels)68 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

The Foundation is Alive!
The late Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992) is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi writers. He pertains to the old "hard sci-fi" school that populated the `50s and a successful member of that community by the way. This story is the first step in the second "Foundation Trilogy". Pressed by editors and fan's claim, after almost twenty-five years Asimov reassumes his famous "Foundation Saga". He ...

Prelude to Foundation (Foundation Novels)114 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1989

Loved it
My book scale goes like this: 1-poor, 2-fair, 3-excellent. A 3. I read this in high school & now, couple years later, I'm back into it. It's a great book for any sci-fi fan, esp. ones who like the future. I always wonder what happens next, and I also constantly visualize seeing what's going on in my imagination. The places they visited had unique settings and dialogue. To me, that makes for ...

The Naked Sun58 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

Asimov takes a murder mystery WAY beyond merely clever!
A thousand years earlier, mankind had split into two groups who now hated one another with a visceral prejudice born out of fear and a complete lack of cultural understanding of one another. Spacers, those who had seen their destiny in the stars, left earth with the assistance of positronic robot technology and colonized fifty worlds scattered throughout the galaxy. One world in particular, ...

Second Foundation (Foundation Novels)61 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

Thinking man's Foundation novel
I found Second Foundation to be the best in the series thus far. Both halves of the novel have so many twists and turns you wouldn't expect, I would be impressed by anyone who can figure out the true story before it comes to light. This book is on par with mystery and double/triple-spy stories. I hope the remaining books in the series are as complex! (Books in the series to read before this ...

Forward the Foundation (Foundation Novels)53 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1994

Best outside of the original trilogy
I am a huge Asimov fan, but I have always been dissapointed by his later fiction, which never seems to have the life and tight plotting that his earlier stuff does. That is, untll AI read Forward the Foundation. Returning to the style of the original books, Forward the Foundation is a series of short stories, each separated by ten years, rather than a single narrative. And much like in the ...

I, Robot (The Robot)206 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 2008

Foundation Zero
I read this collection of short stories (nothing to do with the weak movie of the same title) just after having read the Foundation novels, and I was delighted, in these stories Asimov introduces the seed of several topics for his Foundation novels, for instance, the development of the Hyper-drive that allows mankind to establish a Galactic Empire, we can read about the moral dilemma that ...

Caves of Steel (Robot City)81 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

The Laws of Robotics ... this is where it all started!
A thousand years ago, mankind began the process of leaving mother Earth and colonizing the galaxy. Fifty planets have been now been colonized by thinly spread populations of hardy pioneering spirits - rough and ready types willing to work in hostile environments with robots as help-mates and partners - and it is obvious that mankind has evolved down two diverging sociological paths. The Earthmen ...

Foundation (Foundation Novels)333 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

Epic
The Foundation trilogy (three first books) and the Foundation series (all seven) are often regarded as the greatest set of Science Fiction literature ever produced. The Foundation series won the one-time Hugo Award for "Best All-Time Series" in 1966. Isaac Asimov was among the world's best authors, an accomplished scientist, and he was also a genius with an IQ above 170, and it shows in the ...

Foundation and Empire (Foundation Novels)80 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1991

A classic tale of sci fi
"Foundation and Empire," the second in a trilogy of classic science fiction novels by Isaac Asimov, is a must read for historians of science fiction. For those who like science fiction itself, this volume is also valuable. Asimov can madden, especially in his early novels, but his imagination is wonderful. His strength is conceptualizing systems (whether empires or cultures) and he often plays ...

Foundation and Earth83 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 2004

Another major work by Isaac Asimov
This book by Isaac Asimov is fascinating in two ways--first, it is the last of the Foundation series; second, it is another link between two of the greatest series in science fiction, the Foundation series and the Robot series. As always with Asimov, there are the irritating things--his characters get talky, plot sometimes breaks down, and there is a certain discursive quality to his writing ...

Pebble in the Sky33 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Tor Books, 2008

One of the best science-fiction stories I have ever read!
Joseph Schwartz is on his way home, when he inexplicably finds himself whirled to another world. It's inhabited by humans, but they wear such strange clothes, and live in strange houses, and talk a language that he has never heard before. It seems that Schwartz has been transported far into the future, a future Earth where much of the planet is uninhabitable due to radiation, and where the ...

Everyone should read this book
Hey I read this book loved it, and everyone should read it! Hey I am no brain, I do not belong to Mensa, nor am I endowed with any superior intelect, I am an average guy, Just a B student, who fell in love with this book. Anybody if they really want can understand this book and really appreciate what math is. Mathmatics before this book was just a bunch of numbers on a page any countless formulas ...

Isaac Asimov: The Complete Stories, Vol. 114 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Broadway, 1990

Heck yeah!
This is a GREAT collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov, one of the best science-fiction short-story writer ever. It contains over forty of his best works, including Nightfall and the Ugly Little Boy. The book itself is pretty big, with nice-sized font. Overall, a nice, sturdy copy of awesome short-stories. A must for an Isaac Asimov fan.

50 Short Science Fiction Tales13 reviews
Groff Conklin

Scribner, 1997

Wonderful
If you enjoy SciFi then this one's for you. These are obviously very short stories since 50 of 'em are crammed into such a small book - but many of them have a hidden depth that transcends their brevity. Some are deeply philosophical, and many contain clever Rod-Serling-esque twists at the end. Very highly recommended. Turn off the TV and read this instead.

The Robots of Dawn61 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1994

Elijah & Daneel's Last Adventure!
The late Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992) is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi writers. He pertains to the old "hard sci-fi" school that populated the `50s and a successful member of that community by the way. This story is the third and last step in the long friendship between the earthling New York detective Elijah Baley and the robot detective R. Daneel Olivaw. You don't need to read "The Caves ...

Asimov's Guide to the Bible: A Historical Look at the Old and New Testaments55 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Gramercy, 1988

Must have hot Biblical Historicity students
This book can be only described with one word. AMAZING! The insight and knowledge of the late Isaac Asimov is shown here with such an amazing simplicity. He can explain the mystery of life in laymen's terms with extreme ease. This book, while vast and detailed, is a must have for all the people that have that itch to understand all the mysteries of the bible and only find books that only ...

The Gods Themselves78 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Spectra, 1990

One of my favorites.
This book is a well-written, enjoyable read that should be on everybody's reading list, whether a science fiction fan or not. One of the attributes of the genre allows the author to get a message across in an entertaining, non-pedantic manner. This book's message is playing out today and if the world's leaders aren't convinced to listen to those voices crying warnings galore Asimov's hope that, ...

Robots and Empire37 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Collins, 1994

Classic
This is my favorite out of the Robot series by Asimov. This book is NOT a mystery like the others. It is more of a tie in to the Galactic and Foundation series. I feel that this book gives more "personality" to a one Daneel Olivaw. A must have for Asimov fans and a should read for sci-fi lovers.

Fantastic Voyage29 reviews
Isaac Asimov

Bantam, 1988

Of course it's good, we have the same name.
Isaac Asimov's novel is based on the screenplay by Harry Kliener and a story by Otto Klement and Jay Lewis Bixby and is a very easy read. The world has been divided and battling for control for over half a century. A scientist, Benes, from the Other Side, has been vital in keeping the two factions of the world technologically even, and has now defected. He claims to have important information ...
