Issey Miyake: Making Things1 review
Issey Miyake, Kazuko Sato, ...

Scalo Publishers, 1999

MORE THAN CLOTHES!
There is very little in print about Issey Miyake and, as a devotee of most Japanese designers, "Issey Miyake: Making Things" for me is an absolute must! This book is promoting an exhibition held in Paris in 1998-99 but it is much much more than an exhibition catalogue. The photography of course is pretty wonderful - and what I particularly love are the many photos showing the textile ...

Toshiro Kawase

Kodansha International, 1999

a work of art
Not only the flower arrangements, but also the photography, the re-production, and the text is done with much attention to artistic expression, the book itself is a work of art. A delight for the heart and soul.

Issey Miyake, Irving Penn, ...

Bulfinch Press, 1999

Penn & Miyake: a match made in heaven
Irving Penn has, for decades, been one of the most remarkable fashion photographers, submitting clothes to his own crystal aesthetic in ways that bring their most interesting details to light. He is the perfect man to photograph the work of Issey Miyake, whose clothes demand an inventive and piercing eye to capture their astonishing detail and structure on film. This book, collecting dozens of ...

Total Living: Art, Fashion, Design, Architecture, Communication1 review
Dietmar Steiner, Michele Ciavarella, ...

Charta, 2002

Never tell a book by it's cover
Inspite and not despite the cover this book is an innovative and artistic compilation of images meant to provoke critical thought and thinking. The cover is a brilliant documentary of the ever increasing blanket of uniformity or branding, labels and marketing. The cover provides minor shock value in good taste relative to much of what is used by advertisers today and is a preview as to the ...

Madeleine Vionnet29 reviews
Betty Kirke

Chronicle Books, 1998

Wonderful book, with BIG Problems
This is an outstanding book on a revolutionary designer. Wonderful photos, and "patterns" from the clothing. the only problem is Kirke never bothers to tell you what the scale is, so making these patterns is almost impossible. Her directions for making the patterns are laughable. The patterns are white lines on black. Why include patterns if you aren't going to put them in a usable form? There ...
