The Misbegotten Son22 reviews
Jack Olsen

Island Books, 1993

BRILLIANT
I couldn't even estimate how many true crime books I've read over the years, and this is, by far, the best ever. What has frustrated me about most of these books is that they don't go very deeply into the WHY's and HOW's---Why did this happen? How did this guy get this way? This book, The Misbegotten Son, not only delves deeply into all that, it does so, eventually, at the molecular-genetic level ...

Doc12 reviews
Jack Olsen

Dell, 1990

True Crime Lovers will Salivate! Horrifying!
DOC is one of the most horrifying true stories of the abuse of power and trust that I have ever read! Dr. John Story chose to build a family practice in the small Wyoming town of Lovell, where there were no other doctors available and where half the population were fundamentalist members of the LDS or Mormon church. Known for his concern for his patients and strong morals rooted in the Baptist ...

Night of the Grizzlies30 reviews
Jack Olsen

Homestead Publishing, 1996

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING
I first read this book in the early 70's and have re-read it countless times since. It's amazingly well-written, descriptive, and painstakingly researched, as well as sensitive to the people, victims and otherwise, involved in this tragedy. It builds up effectively from an overview of Glacier Park and the people who will become involved in the story, and the events leading up to "the long ...

Son15 reviews
Jack Olsen

Dell, 1985

IT COULDN'T HAVE REALLY HAPPENED.
SON is the type of book that you never forget. As you read, you keep thinking that surely it's fiction and remind yourself that there is a man, a real man alive today, that lived this nightmare. He endured unspeakable verbal abuse but, when he reached a point of no longer being able to "hang in there," he retaliated against his monster mother in the only way he knew how. If I sound sympathetic ...

Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivor's Soul: Stories to Inspire, Support and Heal (Chicken Soup for ...9 reviews
Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, ...

HCI, 2006

Support Group Between Two Covers
As the co-author of this book, I have to thank the amazing story contributors who wrote deep and moving stories about their journey through breast cancer in order to help those who have been newly diagnosed, their families and friends. This book would not have been possible without their courage, strength, and humor. Yes, there are a lot of funny stories in here too. It was an honor to work with ...

Give a Boy a Gun: A True Story of Law and Disorder in the American West8 reviews
Jack Olsen

Dell, 1986

The Title Says it All...
As the daughter of Bill Pogue, one of the Game Wardens murdered by Claude Dallas, I know the true story of what happened that day. Jack Olson did a wonderful job of interviewing almost anyone involved and investigating the lifestyle of Claude Dallas that led to this tragic event. I learned as much from reading this book as I did sitting through the long and frustrating trial.

Hastened to the Grave: The Gypsy Murder Investigation (Hasand to Grave)15 reviews
Jack Olsen

St. Martin's Paperbacks, 1999

Hastened to the gave:the Gypsy murders
I can't believe someone had the courage to write this book. I am sad to say that it is more serious than this book could ever expose. It is hard to fathom that people could be so vicious and sick and to do such crimes. My grandmother was a victim of some of these sick, twisted people. I am so glad that Jack Olsen had the guts to write this book. I could not put it down. I wish there were more ...

Salt of the Earth: A Mother, A Daughter, A Murder16 reviews
Jack Olsen

St. Martin's Paperbacks, 1997

One of the best....
Jack Olsen is great at true crime. He leaves no stone unturned, yet you never get bored. I have to agree with a fellow reviewer when he said that more time should have been spent on Michael Kay Green. The story, nonetheless is riveting. I could not put the book down. Elaine Gere is one tough lady, you sometimes feel like you are reading ficton yet it is real! I highly recommend "Salt".

The Climb Up to Hell10 reviews
Jack Olsen

St. Martin's Paperbacks, 2000

A real page-turner
A friend of mine is a big fan of Jack Olsen, and suggested that I read this book first as I'm interested in climbing. Since reading it, I can't wait to read his other books. Its unfair to dismiss this book simply because Olson is a true-crime writer - why does this genre get such a bad wrap? Not only is it an exciting account of the events, but you begin to feel for all the people involved. I was ...

The Man with Candy18 reviews
Jack Olsen

Simon & Schuster, 2000

interestingly profound book
First off, the book itself was in very excellent condition. The books content is a very somber and hideous account of one of the most tragic and horrifying murders of young kids this country has ever seen. From 1971 to 1973 many young teen-agers met the end of their lives in very torturistic ways. Any-way, This case was not widely reported back then. By todays standards of media reporting; this ...

Charmer: The True Story of a Ladies' Man and His Victims14 reviews
Jack Olsen

Avon, 1995

The Charasmatic Killer
George Russell does not fit the mold of most serial killers. The fact that he is an African-American sets him apart immediately. What makes Russell even more unique is his propensity for posing bodies of victims post-mortem. Like an artist seeking attention for his work, he may have killed for noteriety. The theory has also been proposed that he killed women because of anger from his ...

Last Man Standing: The Tragedy and Triumph of Geronimo Pratt22 reviews

The Cure for Your Despair
The courage and essential goodness of Geronimo Pratt, in spite of receiving a life sentence for a crime he did not commit, is truly inspiring. This is a wonderful book.

Predator6 reviews
Jack Olsen

Island Books, 1992

A truly frightening book.
I am a fan of thrillers and suspense books. Books such as this go far in proving that real life events can be far more terrifying than anything we read in fiction. Any fan of real life crime, criminal psychology or of books about our criminal /judicial system really need to read this book. There are two aspects to this story...more if you want to start considering the many rape victims left in ...

Silence on Monte Sole
Jack Olsen

Putnam, 1968

Monte Sole -- Mountain of the Sun -- had the bad luck to lie on the main route of withdrawal of the retreating German armies in the fall of 1944. As the Allied advance stormed up Italy to the very shadow of Monte Sole, Axis frustration over their retreat and the harassing Italian partisans reached its peak. With full authorization of Field Marshal Albert Kesselring, and with an infusion of dread SS reinforcements, the Germans determined to ...

Cold Kill2 reviews
Jack Olsen

Dell, 1988

Jerry Springer Come To Life
It is tragic that this book by Jack Olsen never received the acclaim that others of his have. Perhaps it is due to the lack of a trial but the stories are riveting. Yes, I said stories (not story) because COLD KILL is as much about the aftermath as it was the crime itself. David West had an affinity for guns, women and fun. Cindy Ray was attracted to money, David and the world of glamour. ...
