The Blood Bankers: Tales from the Global Underground Economy11 reviews
James S. Henry

Four Walls Eight Windows, 2003

Development Economics To The Next Level
"The Blood Bankers" is an important contribution to our understanding of global financial instability. Most often, liberalized (legitimate) capital markets, international trade, state power, and international regulatory institutions are cited as the causes of destabilization. However, J. Henry allows us to look behind these forces and bodies to see how the liberalization of the global economy has ...

Elimination of Risk in Systems: Practical Principles for Eliminating and Reducing Risk in Complex Systems1 review
James Bradley

Tharsis Books, 2002

Never despise simple books
Albert Einstein once wrote that you should never despise simple books. This is certainly an example of a simple book, about the ideas and principles behind risk, which the author explains thoroughly. It is full of insights too, and will probably never go out of date. It gives you a clear understanding of risk in any context, financial or otherwise. A new, easy to understand risk measure, the ...

Blueprints Bundle (USMLE Steps 2&3 Review Series (the Blueprint Series))5 reviews
Vincent B. Young, William A. Kormos, ...

Blackwell Publishers, 2003

great series with a good overview
I really enjoyed reading the Blueprint series. These books are easy to read and give you a great overview over each topic. The more motivated student might feel that some subject is not very deeply covered. Still the essentials you need to know are there. In general USMLE don't ask beyond that. Illustration are excellent and extremly helpful. Also a quick summery with key points helps you to keep ...

Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima (Young Reader's Abridged Edition)8 reviews
James Bradley, Ron Powers

Delacorte Books for Young Readers, 2003

"Flags of Our Fathers" - A Timely Look at a Bloody Battle in Our History
Quite a while ago, Nick Olmsted, a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, recommended that I read "Flags of Our Fathers." I am glad that I finally got around to taking his advice. This story struck me on many levels at once, and this seems to be an opportune time to share some of my thoughts about this remarkable book, written by James Bradley, the son of one of the six Marines whose iconic picture ...

James W. Bradley

Before Albany is well worth the money
If you are interested in the history of New York and New England, this book is highly recommended. The objects excavated and collected are beautifully photographed with excellent descriptions.

American Democrat and Other Political Writings1 review
James Fenimore Cooper, John Willson, ...

Gateway Editions, 2001

A critique of culture, politics and society in early America
Whereas, Alexis de Tocqueville offers his perspective on America as an outside observer, the literary genius James Fenimore Cooper offers his assessment of culture, politics and society in 19th century America. He doesn't hold democracy to be sacrosanct like we do today, but rather like any other system of government with its advantages and disadvantages. His look at the nature of liberty and its ...

Writings on Logic and Metaphysics3 reviews

Oxford University Press, USA, 1994

Excellent selection from a great thinker
As Bradley's _Principles of Logic_ and _Appearance And Reality_ are out of print and likely to remain so (except as portions of expensive "collected works" sets), Allard and Stock deserve thunderous applause for making this collection of well-chosen excerpts available. Bradley and Idealism generally have been too much neglected during most of this century as speculative metaphysics has fallen ...

Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima1 review
James Bradley

Turtleback Books Distributed by Demco Media, 2002

FURTHER ENHANCED MY RESPECT FOR VETERANS, FOR THESE MEN
A friend recommended this book to me after reading the entire thing in less than a week. I was in the midst of reading a few other books, so I said ok when he offered to lend it to me thinking that I would read it off and on and give it back to him in a couple of months. WRONG! Within 3 hours of starting it, I had logged on to Amazon and had ordered my own copy. Within 3 days I had finished ...

Stewart Binns, Adrian Wood

Carlton Books, 2003

color pictures of WW2 - say no more!
I received this book recently as a gift and am 100% satisfied! The color photos cover every aspect from the rise of Hitler to the dropping of the A bomb on Japan. Anyone thinking that the only good photos that exist of WW2 are in black and white needs to buy this book- you will not be disappointed!

City of Sorcery (Darkover)10 reviews
Marion Zimmer Bradley

DAW, 1984

Really gripping!
This is the third in the mini-series focusing on the Renunciates, within the larger Darkover series. It features the characters that have developed within the previous two novels, Jaelle, Magda, Camilla, and the Terran Cholayna. This novel is much more action packed than the previous two had been, with a fraught and perilous journey across mountains, facing dangers both natural and ...

Flyboys: A True Story of Courage1 review
James Bradley, 2003

Definately Read It
I read this book quite by accident and it is not usually the type of book I would read. It is very well written and is quite educational also. The author has taken great pains to be an unbiased reporter of all the facts he coud uncover. A lot of time, thought, research and heart was obviously put into this book. He has interviewed a number of flyboy pilot survivors and family members of some ...

Good, Better, Best: From the Streets of Brooklyn to the Jungles of Vietnam1 review
James Bradley

Word Smith, 2006

Well Done--Bradley!
Jim Bradley has written one of the better "personal accounts" of the Vietnam War I've read to include an excellent description of "Jump School" in the 60s. A friend of mine, Drew Dix in his book "The Rescue of River City" gives us the Medal of Honor winner's perspective of war while Bradley provides us a view of war from the "regular guy" just trying to do the right thing under pressure and ...

Flags of Our Fathers576 reviews
James Bradley, Ron Powers

Bantam, 2000

Excellent
I gave this as a birthday gift to my husband and I finished reading it before he did. I thought it was well researched and written. Very sad, but helped me understand what they went through. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in the famous picture and statue.

The Norwood Tor1 review
Michael James Bradley

Dodd, Mead, 1980

Great book for all ages
Another great book from my high school teacher Mr. Bradley. There are some very mysterious characters, a LOT of action for a little boy, and unpredictable plot twists. I loved the highly descriptive magical "shows"--they really gave me a clear picture of what was happening, so much that I could almost see it myself! Also keep in mind the e. e. cummings quote at the beginning while you read.

Lost in Reality1 review
James D. Lane

instantpublisher.com, 2007

very interesting and entertaining story
My 10 year old daughter's best friend has read this book four times and said it was her most favourite book. People from all walks of life and all ages have enjoyed the story and characters presented in "Lost in Reality". I haven't heard of a single person who was disappointed after reading this story. It is similar in nature to "Chronicles of Narnia", yet a much different story. I am in the ...

The shaping room1 review
Michael James Bradley

Dodd, Mead, 1978

Funny and incredibly imaginative
I absolutely loved this book when I found it in my local library. At first I was interested because Michael Bradley is my high school English teacher, but this book totally blew me away. It's very witty and humorous, and he uses a lot of highly imaginative analogies and metaphors. It has fast-paced action and some twists and turns that make you laugh and cry with it. There's nothin' but good ...

Theory As a Prayerful Act: The Collected Essays of James B. MacDonald (Counterpoints, Vol 22)1 review
James B. MacDonald

Peter Lang Pub Inc, 1996

The book's a joy
In his introduction, Pinar suggests younger people working in the field of curriculum probably need this introduction to the work of Macdonald, which he claims anticipated or coincided with major shifts in curriculum theorizing in the decade of the eighties. If I am any representative of those "younger scholars," nobody needs to be told how important the work of Macdonald is or has been. Instead, ...

great reference
This is the best book for photoinitated polymerizations I have ever used. It is very clear and to the point as well as being an excellent resource for the acedemic and industrial chemist.
