James R Arnold, Ralph Reinertsen

Napoleon Books, 2007

Crisis in the Snows
A thorough and rich study, "Crisis in the Snows" is a remarkable achievement. Arnold has not only brought this previously little known campaign to light, but has done so in the larger scope of the changing political and military landscape of the Napoleonic era. Masterly recounted and well-told, this is a must read for anyone wishing to know more of this fascinating period.

Grant Wins the War: Decision at Vicksburg8 reviews
James R. Arnold

Wiley, 1999

Well written and detailed.
Other than the fact you can never have too many maps this book was extremely well written. Great detail on brigade actions - specific but flowing pretty smoothly with the overall battle action. Really liked the summary analysis' throughout the book. Focused and, to me, impartial.

Delaware: The History Of Delaware Colony, 1638-1776 (13 Colonies)
Roberta Wiener, James R. Arnold

Raintree, 2004

Delaware is, by their own definition, a "Japanese supersonic group [that] designs-rocks and rocks-designs." They also call themselves "Artoonists." Since 1993, the collaborative has displayed their retro-futurism across a range of contemporary products, including music CDs, CD-ROMs, commercials, magazines, T-shirts, websites, live shows, and mobile phones. Delaware is four: Masato Samata, tape recordist, vocalist, lyricist, composer, art ...

Jeff Davis's Own: Cavalry, Comanches, and the Battle for the Texas Frontier1 review
James R. Arnold

Castle Books, 2007

Birth of U.S. Calvary or What R.E. Lee was doing in 1850s
Arnold has a gift for military history that while informative of facts is also a good read. He makes history interesting even to the casual reader. This book fills what is usually a gap in US military history and a blank in most accounts of R.E. Lees life. Who knew that Lee was an Indian fighter as well as hero of the Mexican American war and great American strategist. His account of Lee's ...

The Battle of the Bulge: Hitler's Last Gamble in the West (Praeger Illustrated Military History)
James R. Arnold

Praeger Publishers, 2004

The 'Battle of the Bulge' was the last major German offensive in the West. Three armies attacked through the Ardennes, the weakest point in the American lines. In spite of its ultimate failure, the Battle of the Bulge did have an important effect on the War and its aftermath: it slowed the Allies down, resulting in more territory being ceded to the Russian sphere of influence at the War's end. James Arnold describes the planning of the attack ...

Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe (Dictatorships)1 review
James R. Arnold, Roberta Wiener

Twenty-First Century Books (CT), 2007

Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe
This is a short primer book for the uninitiated who want to know Zimbabwe and Robert Mugabe. It is also a good reference guide with dates, names and places of importance to the student of the Zimbabwean freedom fighter turned president. It does not go into much detail but I think it is a valuable book for anyone interested in studying the subject. It is an easy read and does not assume that ...

Tet Offensive 1968: Turning Point in Vietnam (Praeger Illustrated Military History)5 reviews
James R. Arnold

Praeger Publishers, 2004

One of the first Osprey's is one of the best
The 'Campaigns' of Osprey have gone through numerous changes over the years, with the first looking very, very different from the newer ones. Yet even though the new generation of Osprey Campaigns look far better and is far more organized, the core of all books remains its content, and Tet Offensive 1968 is very strong in that category. Arnold gives a good overview of the events leading up to ...

Jeff Davis's Own: Cavalry, Comanches, and the Battle for the Texas Frontier4 reviews
James R. Arnold

Wiley, 2000

A fascinating account of the pre-Civil War army.
It is fairly unusual to find a military history book that breaks new ground about the men who fought as commanders in the Civil War. Best known for their exploits as either Union or Confederate leaders, the events that shaped the lives of these men are seldom chronicled. This well-written, well-researched book not only talks about the men but also the army of the pre-Civil War years. The title ...

Chickamauga 1863: The River of Death (Praeger Illustrated Military History)1 review
James R. Arnold

A Concise History of Chickamauga
As with the other titles in Osprey's Campaign Series, 'Chickamauga 1863: The River of Death' presents the history of this famous battle of The War Between The States in a factual and easy-to-read text. Of particular note are the many photos and artists renderings as well as the orders of battle for both the Confederate and Union forces. One is introduced to such pivotal figures as Nathan ...
