Rising from the Flames: The Experience of the Severely Burned1 review
Albert Howard Carter III, Jane Arbuckle Petro

University of Pennsylvania Press, 1998

Any lay person will find this book fascinating.
RISING FROM THE FLAMES is a rare sort of scientific book, one fully accessible and indeed fascinating to any literate lay person. It uses technical terms sparingly; these are almost always either clearly defined or comprehensible in context. No reader need shy away from this book in the fear that it will be "over his head." Facility of reading is enhanced by the authors' frequent use of ...

free book for sale?
The book is everything I expected, except for the tape on front of the cover. I tried to remove the tape and lo and behold, the printing under the tape says "FREE COPY". I don't think it's right to get a free copy of a book from the publisher then sell it. So although I'm pleased with the book, I'm disappointed in the deception.

The Heart and Soul of Nick Carter by Jane Carter
I've got to admit, I was quite impressed with this book and I also found it to be very interesting reading... in fact, I find it so interesting that I end up reading it over and over again. Heck, I might even start reading it again tonight. This book has all interesting facts about Nick Carter (even if some of it is outdated). It has everything about from how his parents decided to name Nick as ...

The Ages of Homer: A Tribute to Emily Townsend Vermeule1 review

University of Texas Press, 1998

variety and dissonance
The variety and range of the essays are impressive, the scholarship is up-to-date, the topics are sometimes very detailed which means they are thoroughly treated [such as fabric and odor in Homer], and the respective writers often do not agree with each other which makes the book even more interesting.
