City of Ember 4 Books Set (City of Ember, People of Sparks, Prophet of Yonwood, Diamond of Darkhold)
Jeanne Duprau, 2008

4 individual books. NOT A BOXED SET. It is always night in the city of Ember. But there is no moon, no stars. The only light during the regular twelve hours of "day" comes from floodlamps that cast a yellowish glow over the streets of the city. Beyond are the pitch-black Unknown Regions, which no one has ever explored because an understanding of fire and electricity has been lost, and with it the idea of a Moveable Light. "Besides," they tell ...

Car Trouble7 reviews
Jeanne Duprau

HarperTeen, 2006

don't judge a book by its cover.
The title is too generic and the cover picture too boring. I picked this book up only because it was in the NEW ARRIVALS section of my library. The premise also seems cliche. What's this? Another story about a socially-challenged friendless teenager? But this turned out to be one of the better books I recently enjoyed. I especially love--or maybe it's because of--Stu's presence. I rarely fall ...

The Diamond of Darkhold: The Fourth Book of Ember (Books of Ember)2 reviews
Jeanne Duprau

Random House Books for Young Readers, 2008

This Ember Glows Dimly
Ever since they emerged from the City of Ember, I have been waiting for them to go back and see what has become of their city. This book finally takes us back to the City of Ember. If you are reading this review, you too may have been waiting. The first book of Ember presented with an amazing world unlike anything that we had experienced before. A city of hope, created with love, reflected ...

The Prophet of Yonwood (Books of Ember)71 reviews
Jeanne Duprau

Yearling, 2007

Clever, clever, clever
This is a thoughtful book about the dangers of blind belief. I would say its Author is Buddhist rather than a right-wing Evangelical. It helps make the leap from today to 200 years in the future. Good writing, good story. I enjoyed it.

The KidHaven Science Library - Cells (The KidHaven Science Library)
Jeanne DuPrau

KidHaven Press, 2001

It also describes the role of disease cells in the human body, and how new knowledge about cells provides hope for the treatment of illnesses such as cancer and muscular dystrophy. The People of Sparks (Sequel to City of Ember)103 reviews
Jeanne DuPrau

Random House Listening Library, 2004

Facing the new world
In "The People of Sparks", Jeanne DuPrau follows Lina and Doon and the people of Ember as they climb out from their underground city into the sunlight of a new-old world, the world after the apocalypse. This is a different kind of book from "The City of Ember", one that deals with a different kind of drama. DuPrau bravely looks into the darkness of our human hearts, well intentioned but weak ...

The City of Ember (The First Book of Ember)398 reviews
Jeanne DuPrau

Yearling, 2004

Not exactly my reading level, but...
I was 21 when I read this last summer, but, despite the the 9-12 reading level, I loved it. I spent a month out of the country and was desperate for a book to read by the pool. The City of Ember was so much more than just something to pass the time. I actually found it very entrancing and endearing. I highly recommend this book to anyone of any age.

The Earth House5 reviews

Ballantine Books, 1993

Graceful and thought-provoking -- a Great Book!
This book was enlightening and bittersweet. The story of the narrator trying to build a home with her partner Sylvia is deceptively complicated. The structure is elegant, the writing beautiful. It ends up being a meditation on life, death, grief, and compassion. Quietly, the story built in power. I loved this book and have read it twice since I first discovered it. It's a gem of a story, ...

Adoption: The Facts, Feelings, and Issues of a Double Heritage1 review
Jeanne Duprau

Julian Messner, 1990

It was Great
I thought this book was very informational. I used the information on interracial adoption from this book for a speech I had to do for school. I found so many useful facts in it. It wasn't just that I was using it for a speech, I learned alot from the book. I think my audience also learned alot from my speech. All in all, I think it was a great book.
