Did not expect to love this book so much!!
The story of Anne & Race I just did not expect to love as much as I did. Anne Peckworth in the other books by Beverley hardly seemed to have the strength to be interesting enough to carry a romantic adventure. It truly is a credit to Beverley's development of character - this book just builds and builds and with each chapter you are totally submerged into Anne's adventures and search for a ...

Get ready for a long night!
I am happy to say that once again the author has dipped into the world of the Malloren family and brought us a story that I could not put down. I am always happy when I find a book that keeps me up late, and this one delivered. If you liked the other books in this series, you will enjoy this one as well. The story moves at a pleasant pace and the characters are memorable, the dialogue ...

The Christmas Cat5 reviews

Berkley, 1996

Enjoyable Whether you Like Cats or Not!
Julie Beard - My True Love Gave to Me Anne Clancy looks to be celebrating Christmas alone - not even her black cat Niner is around having been missing these last four days. Hearing what she thinks is his bell, she rushes out in a snowstorm calling for him and is hit by a car. When a most startling blue-eyed gorgeous hunk of man revives her, she assumes it is her neighbors friend who she was to ...

Rothgar wins again
I did enjoy this book, although I wonder if it's just impossible to be absolutely satisfied with the story of Rothgar's HEA. He's been an intriguing character through the other Malloren books, and now that his story is finally told it's got a lot of baggage. One problem I think is that we just don't get enough of his point-of-view. We get a lot of Diana's thoughts and observations but they ...

St. Raven29 reviews
Jo Beverley

Signet, 2003

Highwayman and Houri
Jo Beverley's Historical Romances are definitely a cut above most of the rest with interesting locations, better historical accuracy than the norm and a variety of plots and characters. "St Raven" links in with the 'Company of Rogues' series although not directly referring to the Rogues, and the events in this story are contemporaneous with the book "Hazard", the events of which are taking place ...

Secrets of The Night
I think Jo Beverly is the top writer of victorian romance fiction. I f you like that type of book, you will love all of Jo Beverly's. Her series of the rogues (young men who organized themselves to help each other in prep school)is excellent.

A Most Unsuitable Man (Signet Historical Romance)17 reviews

Sing like a lark - we all need a Hero!
Ah! Taming of the Shrew? Not quite, but close enough. Damaris, (lovely name) last seen shrieking & threating in the original book has a wonderful background to unveil as a plausible explanation for her grasping behaviour. Her father was a merchant and varment of the high seas, and Damaris unabashedly shares his piratical tendencies. A girl after my own heart - in fact, just as ...

Great beginning to the Malloren series!
I really enjoy the works of Jo Beverley. I enjoyed the rouges series and feel this group will be super as well. Cyn and Chasity (Charles - as he meets her while she is pretending to be a young man) really have great chemistry. Cyn immediately realizes she is posing as a man but feels in his gut that she is terrified and needs his help. He also believes that she will not trust him if he ...

Wheeler Publishing, 2004

Fabulous, sexy romance!
Serena Riverton, desperate to escape another probably-horrid marriage arranged by her anything-but-loving brothers, seduces Lord Francis. She figures she can tolerate being his mistress - it won't be as bad as anything she endured with her sexually abusive husband. She gets what she wants but with a surprise - real pleasure and true love with the sensitive Francis who's as innocent as she is ...

Lord of my Heart16 reviews
Jo Beverley

Absolutely loved the story...
I absolutely loved the story of a Norman/Saxon stuggling with two worlds. I was intrigued from the first to the last page. Was he on the side of the Saxon's or the Norman's? I won't give anything away but the story kept me entralled until the last page. JB brought the time period to life and I could imagine events (especially with Queen Matilda) happening exactly as she laid them out.

Dark Champion15 reviews

This one was very well done.
I don't usually like to read medievals - if they are realistically portrayed they are too dark, and if they are not realistically portrayed - well, I don't like unrealistic books. But I love Jo Beverley, so I tried this one out. As far as being realistically portrayed - that's a big yes! As far as being a dark novel - that's a yes, too. There are some descriptions that are so graphic... ...

Excellent early efforts by a great writer
This is a reprint of two early novellas by Jo Beverley. I can recommend this compilation very highly. 'The Fortune Hunter' is a sweet story about a girl cursed with astonishing beauty who has to go looking for a rich husband to save her family and their ancestral home from ruin. The 'astonishing beauty' thing is well written and it really does come off as a curse. I liked the hero and his ...

The Devil's Heiress
Great book! Jo Beverly can write a great story, this one kept me on the edge. I was so eager for Hawk and Clarissa to get together that I could not put the book down. Jo Beverly is definately going on my list of great novels. Now I'm looking for the books of the other characters in this story.

Read it for the Reding story
I picked this up because I'd heard of Jo Beverley and Cathy Maxwell and wanted to try them in short story first before buying their regular books. I received a nice surprise -- and a new author to buy -- in the story by Jaclyn Reding, a new name for me. While the Beverley and Maxwell stories (and Lauren Royal's too) were certainly enjoyable, I really liked Jaclyn Reding's WRITTEN IN THE STARS ...

A Quick and Enjoyable Read
I'm not generally a fan of Regency Romances, they always leave me wanting more. I am a huge fan of Jo Beverley's though, so I took a chance on this one and I'm glad I did. Jane Sandiford is a sheltered and not very fasionable girl, raised in the country far away from the London scene. She hails from one of the oldest and wealthiest families in England which makes her a prime canditate to ...

Tempting Fortune18 reviews

Thorndike Press, 2003

Good read - much better if read in order!
I read this book several months ago - and relly was quite confused - recently I read My Lady Notorious and realized why - these books need to be read in order. Why authors do not make this more clear is beyond me - one would think they would want us to enjoy them to the fullest. So much of what happens in Tempting Fortune is based on the relationships of the first book. Tempting is a good book ...

A Christmas delight and keeper - superior efforts
I am working my way through a little horde of Regency Christmas anthologies, savouring them one at a time. I picked this one up whilst on holiday recently and just read it; what a pleasure it was! I don't ordinarly seek out short stories as a matter of course but I am very fond of this particular little mini sub-genre. Three of the contributions stood out for me. "The Rake's Christmas" by Edith ...
