Amenhotep Dazzles
Chronicle of a Pharaoh is a readable in-depth look at pharaoh Amenhotep III, one of the three greatest kings of ancient Egypt. The layout is superb as it chronicles his life with a year-by-year format. Contains a generous amount of personal minutae, reinforced with pictures and plates on almost every page. Outstanding in all respects, this one is a keeper.

Cleopatra's Life and Much More
In this book, sandwiched between a few before and after centuries of ancient history, Cleopatra's life is portrayed, along with exciting highlights of the turbulent times in which she lived. The author is careful in separating out what is known to have happened and what may have happened. In this regard, she has tried to debunk generally "known" myths about Cleopatra, such as how she met Julius ...

A Great Way to Think about Nonfiction Writing in Classrooms
This book is a wonderful tool for writing teachers. Portalupi and Fletcher are very thoughtful in the way that the book is organized so that teachers can share with students lessons dealing with the craft of nonfiction. Since so many writing books deal primarily with narrative writing, this is one of the first I've seen to deal specifically with nonfiction and its craft. This book will change ...

Excellent resource!
This book does exactly what it says. It breaks writing workshop down into its essential components and provides the reader with the basic formats of writing worshop. It doesn't give you all of the answers, but at the end of each chapter it provides points for "making it work in the classroom" and an entire chapter on troubleshooting potential problems. If you want to implement writing workshop ...

A Little Jewel of the Nile
If you want a fast read that will give you a quick overview of the religion of the ancient Egyptians, then THE EGYPTIAN BOOK OF LIVING AND DYING: AN ILLUSTRATED GUIDE TO ANCIENT EGYPTIAN WISDOM is the book for you. It's an extremely thin book at 144 pages, but it is nicely written for the general public/non-academic reader. The whole book is put together beautifully with full-color pictures and ...

Alexander -- A Soldier's Soldier
Alexander was, first and foremost, a soldier's soldier. No armchair general, he; he led from the front, and this during an age of warfare when being "in front" was hazardous in the extreme. He was, of course, a brilliant strategist and tactician, but he never forgot his soldiers who carried the fight to his enemy. When they were on campaign, he shared their lot -- food, quarters, hardships, ...

Wonderful!
I recently received this set as a gift. The oils are top quality and the little book included is quite facinating. I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in aromatherapy and herbalism as well as the culture of the Ancient Egyptians

Fun, fun, fun--but don't be overly credulous
Who Killed King Tut? What a title! And who hasn't wanted to know? More importantly, who doesn't already have a theory? The book is a wonderfully entertaining "who dunnit" cum travel documentary; in fact it was originally filmed by a British production company as a feature for the Discovery Channel. The two super sleuths certainly have impressive credentials, Michael King is State ...

Model Mini-lessons for the writing workshop
I'm a relatively new teacher, and have switched grade levels every year. Teaching writing has been one of the biggest challenges for me. I believe in a writing workshop model, and use a lot of 6 Traits ideas. I knew that both relied on the idea of the writing "mini-lesson" but I really didn't know what those should look like or what kinds of topics they should cover. This book has been a ...

Excellent introduction to history of ancient Egypt
As I said in the title, this is really excellent beginning for every would be Egyptologist. It's small format book, with basic informations but lavishly illustrated with dozens of high quality pictures that follows main idea of the article. I highly recommend this book, as all others in Life, Myth, and Art series. (Especially Rome, China and Greece)

Perimortem damage to both "younger lady" and teenaged boy
Good book in general, readable, and willing to challenge entrenched opinion. I don't know what Hawass' problem is, but from his past buffoonery, I don't really care either. For those who do, here's the "more daddy than mummy" link. http://www.cbc.ca/disclosure/archives/040113_nef/test.html The tone of the entire program hardly inspires confidence, and there's no reason to believe that mummy ...
