Three Billy Goats-GREAT
I was just reminded of this teriffic retelling of Three Billy Goats Gruff. The suspense and pacing are brilliant. The illustrations are gorgeous AND funny. It was one of my all-time favorite read-alouds when I was a children's librarian. Galdone never failed in capturing the kids' imagination and story hour was always the better with one of his books. A MUST HAVE!

Classic story with a message
This classic story carries a message, not only for children that don't want to help with their chores, but for anyone who hasn't quite got into the gardening mood. This book is all about helping, sharing, and making an effort in your own behalf. I bring it along with me when doing presentations on gardening and food security, and the grown ups pick it up read it, and they really get it. Great ...

The Tailypo: A Ghost Story2 reviews
Joanna Galdone

Seabury Press, 1977

A Classic Brothers Grimm Style Faerie Tale
I highly recomend this book to all who love the classic, frightening, and yes often grousome faerie tales written by the Brothers Grimm. It is rare to find such wonderful story-telling talent in today's world of political correctness. "Tailypo" rings true to the style of both Grimm and Aesop, reminding children that there can sometimes be terrible consiquensies when you do terrible things to those ...

The Turtle and the Monkey (Philippine Tale)4 reviews
Joanna C. Galdone, Paul Galdone

Sandpiper, 1990

A FABULOUS story encouraging verbal expression.
I'm an elementary speech-language specialist and I use this book every year. I am picky in the books I choose to use in therapy, but this story allows for critical thinking, retelling, inferring, predicting..all the things that look for in interactive literature. Kids root for the turtle and love the "villian" characteristics in the monkey! Highly recommended. I have so much fun reading it ...

HIST MOTHER TWADDLE RNF3 reviews
Joanna C. Galdone, Paul Galdone

Clarion Books, 1979

Great illustrations, but not the classic story!
Paul Galdone usually does a wonderful job retelling and illustrating fairy tales. Here the illustrations are up to his usual level, but he's changed the story: Jack and his mother are not on the verge of starvation, and once Jack climbs up the beanstalk and the giant falls asleep, Jack simply chops off his head. End of story -- no bags of gold, no sneaking back again, and no climatic chase back ...

My 3 year old son loves this one
5 stars for the enjoyment my 3 year old sons gets from this one. The traditional version of the story, with the third pig outwitting the wolf many times. Appealing illustrations. I am going to buy more of Galdone's books based on how much my son has enjoyed this one and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff."

Tailypo haunts me....still
our evil harpie of an elementary school librarian scarred generations of children with this book. we've found some comfort in reading these customer reviews and to discover: we are not alone. the story, the art, it burns into your very soul. i will never ever ever EVER eat a Tailypo's tail!!!!!!! p.s. how many of you traumatized adults are from BOONE, IOWA, PAGE SCHOOL ELEMENTARY '78-80?

PRINCESS + THE PEA RNF7 reviews
Joanna C. Galdone, Paul Galdone

Clarion Books, 1979

Beautiful Illustrations!
This is in reference to the version illustrated by D. Duntzee--some of the reviews here were a little confusing on that point. This version is the time-honored story by H. C. Andersen which I grew up hearing. The illustrations are really lovely and my two little girls just adore this book. If you have a library of classic children's stories, you should add this book to it--it's wonderful!
