The Delivery Man: A Novel22 reviews
Joe McGinniss Jr.

Grove/Atlantic, Black Cat, 2008

Great Story
This is a great novel. I found out about it on Urban Outfitters.com and was not disappointed. The characters were great and I could totally imagine what life is like for them living in Las Vegas as a teenager. I can't wait until his next book comes out.

The Selling of the President 19684 reviews
Joe McGinniss

Pocket, 1970

Interesting history that could be written in 2005
It's amazing that Joe McGinnis was allowed access so close to Richard Nixon's inner circle. One of the drawbacks to this kind of journalism is that people learn from it and shut off these opportunities later. For an audience in 2005 this book will shed light on some of the same media handling that goes on now. Nixon's campaign guys treated him as a product, not a politician, and staged a number ...

The Miracle of Castel di Sangro: A Tale of Passion and Folly in the Heart of Italy107 reviews
Joe Mcginniss

Broadway, 2000

An All-Time Great Sports Book
It's fitting that even after hearing about this book because of soccer, I ended up stumbing across it in the travel section. Soccer may be the glue of the book, but it's a travelogue at heart. McGinness starts with his newfound madness for soccer bringing him to Italy, yet quickly lets the game recede into the muddle of everyday life. The writing quickly becomes part Simon Kuper and part Bruce ...

Fatal Vision: Movie Tie-In74 reviews
Joe McGinniss

A Signet Book, 1984

Brilliant
One of the best nonfiction books I've ever read. I continue to recommend it to everyone I know who reads journalism or true crime, and they've all been impressed by it. In the first half of the book, McGinniss presents the history of the case and lets Jeffrey MacDonald present himself, via transcripts of cassette-tape recordings he sent the author. As the falseness and the inconsistencies in ...

Never Enough33 reviews
Joe McGinniss

Pocket Star, 2008

PERFECTLY TITLED
THIS BOOK WAS VERY GOOD. THE TITLE IS PERFECT. I DO NOT BELIEVE NANCY WAS EVER ABUSED. I FEEL THAT SHE KILLED ROB SO THAT SHE COULD BE WITH MICHAEL. SHE COULD HAVE LEFT ROB AND MARRIED MICHAEL BUT SHE WOULD HAVE LOST HER LIFESTYLE. BECAUSE LOVE WAS NOT ENOUGH, SHE SITS IN PRISON TODAY. I'M SURE IF SHE HAD IT TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN SHE WOULD RATHER LIVE IN A MOBILE HOME THAN IN PRISON.

Going to Extremes16 reviews

Plume, 1989

Alaska: the city guy's view
The "top note" of Joe McGinniss' story "Going to Extremes" is about what happens when a lot of folks from the lower 48 and a lot of money are thrown into Alaska at the same time--the late 1970s, when the pipeline was being built. McGinniss casts an urban reporter's jaundiced eye, for example, toward the drinking and drugs that seem like an inevitable consequence of people in the cold wilderness ...

The Big Horse9 reviews
Joe McGinniss

Thorndike Press, 2005

Thoroughly Entertaining
One of the best books I have ever read about horse racing. McGinnis is unsentimental, clear eyed and far too old to be sucked in by the romanticism that surrounds the track... Yet he succumbs, as any of us who love the horses does. But this book is mainly a biography of P.J. Johnston just about the last of a dying breed. Listen, if you like horse racing, you've got to get this book. If ...

1st Edition of Reader's Digest 4-books-in-one. Cruel Doubt is the story of murder in an Eastern North Carolina family. No Minor Chords splendidly writen, often hilarious account of life in the film business. J. Edgar Hoover is the riveting account of Hoover's creation of the FBI.
