Patent Law and Policy: Cases and Materials1 review
Robert Patrick Merges, John Fitzgerald Duffy

LexisNexis, 2002

Outstanding introductory text useful even to practitioners
Highly recommended even for seasoned IP litigators; although this is a casebook, it has very thoughtful notes reminiscent of Hart & Wechsler's Fed. Courts casebook.

Preparing Teachers for a Changing World: What Teachers Should Learn and Be Able to Do2 reviews

Jossey-Bass, 2007

Very useful resource
This book is useful for many different people involved in education: teachers, future teachers, administrators who support teachers, teacher educators, etc. It includes chapters from preeminent researchers in the field and covers many different areas in education. Each chapter reviews research in the area, and the language is not techno-speak meant to be accessible only to people who spend their ...

Writing from These Roots: The Historical Development of Literacy in a Hmong American Community
John M. Duffy

University of Hawaii Press, 2007

Writing from These Roots documents the historical development of literacy in a Midwestern American community of Laotian Hmong, a people who came to the United States as refugees from the Vietnam War and whose language had no widely accepted written form until one created by missionary-linguists was adopted in the late twentieth century by Hmong in Laos and, later, the U.S. and other Western nations. As such, the Hmong have often ...

Economics (Cliffs Quick Review)12 reviews
John Duffy

Cliffs Notes, 1993

Great CLEP Prep Book!
I just took both micro and macro economic CLEP tests, and passed both with a 63 and 60 respectively. The only studying I used was this book, coupled with a little online research and the offical CLEP practice tests. It worked great! However, this book does not cover the exchange market, so I suggest that you research this a little before taking the test.

Essential Marvel Two-In-One, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials)2 reviews
Marv Wolfman, Roger Slifer, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

The next chapter in a great collection of stories.
Marvel Two-In-One was an opportunity for Marvel to continue on the "Team-Up" bandwagon of the 70s using The Thing as the stable character throughout. While the first volume of this collection dealt mostly with one-shot stories, this second volume picks up as the series had started to catch its stride. There are several stories that spread out over multiple issues, and we see the inclusion of such ...

When Bataan and 70,000 American and Filipino troops were surrendered to the Japanese, Father Duffy was among those captured. Essential Luke Cage/Power Man, Vol. 2 (Marvel Essentials)1 review
Don McGregor, Bill Mantlo, ...

Marvel Comics, 2006

"Who is the man that'd risk his neck for his brother-man?" (Has it already been used?)
One of the good aspects of Mr. Cage (and I don't mean Nicholas, of course!!!) is that he doesn't want to be a world-saving superhero; although he wears a rather flashy costume and, sometimes, goes toe-to-toe with superheavies like "Dr. Doom" (but, then again, who hasn't had a run-in with him in the "Marvel Kingdon?"), he makes it quite clear that he's only trying to make a living, and, if he has ...

Vermont: An Illustrated History1 review
John J. Duffy, Vincent Feeney

American Historical Press, 2000

Green Mountain Beauty!
As a lifelong Vermonter, now wintering in Florida, this book is a "must have" to remind me and my family of the special quality of life in the Green Mountains of Vermont. The book is a well written history of the state and includes splendid photographs of diverse scenes throughout the state.

The Sanitarians: A HISTORY OF AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH2 reviews
John Duffy

University of Illinois Press, 1992

Great Read
This history of American Public Health chronicles health perspectives of scavengers and public health workers to physicians and businessmen. It follows medicine as it evolved from bleeding victims and "miasmas" to technologically advanced medicine such as vaccines and x-rays. With a very good account of the history of infectious disease (yellow fever, and cholera), it aptly avoids the ...

The Executive Guide to Improvement and Change1 review
G. Dennis Beecroft, Grace L. Duffy, ...

ASQ Quality Press, 2003

Solid Overview of Change Mgmt and Quality Improvement
I've read about half the chapters in this book so far (they don't necessarily need to be read in order) and found it very helpful in approaching a process redesign at work. I particularly enjoyed the case study in the last chapter about a college that had taken the principles of quality management and applied them in improving services to students. Overall, I would recommend it as a good ...

Wolverine Classic, Vol. 51 review
Peter David, Jo Duffy, ...

Marvel Comics, 2007

Graphic SF Reader
A collection of several issues of the Wolverine comic from its earlier days. The first one of which includes artwork by the fabulous Gene Colan as Wolverine tries to save a kid from the Snow Queen, an assassin with disorientation powers. While the others don't live up to that, as his Patch disguise in Madripoor is the story we are takalking about here, there are guest appearances from both ...
