The definition of Heroic
Simply put, any of the Silver Age volumes in DC Comics Showcase and Marvel's Essentials are better crafted, and more fun than the current kill 'em all and let god sort 'em out software those companies now publish. Buy Green Lantern. Buy Adam Strange. Buy Batman. Buy the Elongated Man. Buy Antman. Buy The Fantastic Four. Buy Ironman. Buy Daredevil. Heck. Buy Haunted Tank and Man-thing! ...

Typography 101
I found this book to be an excellent, well organized, and easy to use tool in learning the history, classification, and organization of type. It is a great text for anyone starting out in the design field as well as for the experienced designer. I never knew exactly how much care and detail went into properly setting type until I got into this book. Mr. Kane has included excellent visual examples ...

A beautiful, clever book
Bought this for my almost 6 year-old grandson after he'd seen them perform and he loved it. So did his 8 & 9 year-old sisters because it's more than beautiful pictures and an alphabet book. It's also a puzzle.

The Perfect End to a Perfect Mess
It seems that whenever Angel isn't leaping out of the woodwork to slaughter the bad guys, the bad guys line up to leap out of the woodwork at him. Small wonder the vampire with a soul is as broody as he is. Take this night. Angel has to do some serious carjacking to break the truth out of a really ugly gang of Kryll demons. Which truth we never quite find out, because Angel finds a child in ...

Showcase Presents: Green Lantern, Volume 1.........
When I was a youngster in the 70's, one of the comics I used to love reading from DC was Green Lantern. Imagine my surprise when I walk into my local BAM Bookstore and find a digest of old Green Lantern comics called Showcase Presents Green Lantern, Volume 1 for a real low price of $9.99. I quickly purchased it and brought it home for an all-night read. Thing is, it's three days later and I still ...

Silver Age SF at its best
To create a hit comic today you need to tell the origin in the first issue, begin the exploits in issue 2 and kill a character in #3, just to stay alive. When Green Lantern was reworked in the pages of Showcase - in the 60s - this was not the case. Broome and Kane's SF masterpiece takes a full year to unfold GL's origin; and this is how it should be. Giving bits and pieces of the complex tale ...

superior
This entire series of reproductions of the classic Conan comics from the 1960s and 1970s is superior. The details are incredible and the colors are more vivid than in the originals and the paper quality is superior and you will not have to worry about preservation. A great substitute for the originals ( and more affordable).

Spidey at some of his BEST and worst moments!
Once you get past the black & white pages (there is much to be said about how color enhances comicbook artwork), the Marvel Essentials stories really manage to pull you in. Volume 6 has some of Spidey's best storylines ever in Amazing Spider-Man. The pinacle would have to be the character defining two-parter with the Death of Gwen Stacy at the hands of the Green Goblin. Powerful stuff even ...

Great for a Catholic growing in Faith
I agree that this isn't a great text for beginning Catholics or those new to the Faith, but better for a Catholic looking for answers on Confession, Penance, Reconcilliation and Sin. The reflections on the 10 commmandments are great. Remember folks, the original publication date was 1943, pre-Vatican II.

Captain America teams up with the Falcon in the early 1970s
With the recent "death" of Captain America in the epilogue to the Civil War that has rocked the Marvel Universe I decided to go back and read again the Silver Age adventures of ol' wing head. "Essential Captain America, Volume 3," reprints "Captain America" issues #127-56, which were originally published between 1970 and 1972. Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby back in ...
