Diet for a New America155 reviews
John Robbins

HJ Kramer, 1998

Twenty years and counting...
I read this book 20 years ago when I was about to turn 30. A vegetarian friend turned me on to the book. I instantly gave up meat and have not looked back. I'll be 50 in a few weeks and everyone tells me there's no way I look that old and I sure don't feel that old. I give all the credit to my diet. This book makes the decision to give up meat a slam-dunk, no-brainer.

After the Death of God (Insurrections: Critical Studies in Religion, Politics, and Culture)1 review
Gianni Vattimo, John D. Caputo

Columbia University Press, 2009

The modern meaning of the religious faith
I think that it is a very profound dialogue on the true meaning of the faith in a world confused about politics, religion and secolarization.

The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for ...663 reviews
T. Colin Campbell, Thomas M. Campbell II

Benbella Books, 2006

Necessary preliminary
This book helps explain the amazing disparity in some of the charts comparing the world's other big countries (all with universal health care) to the U.S. in terms of money spent per individual and quality and longevity of life. The U.S. ranks first--and by a simply huge margin--in dollars spent, averaging nearly $8,000 per person--but no higher than #34 in terms of the health and life ...

Healthy at 100: The Scientifically Proven Secrets of the World's Healthiest and Longest-Lived Peoples25 reviews
John Robbins

Ballantine Books, 2007

Healthy At 100
The correct view of healthy living is elusive. One physician said, "When we all die and find out the truth, the thing we will be most embarrassed about is the diets we prescribed." Advice on new nutritional concepts sells magazines, but most of the ideas soon fall by the wayside in favor of the next fad. If only we knew what has worked in the long term. Well, it seems that "Healthy at 100" is ...

The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World125 reviews
John Robbins

Conari Pr, 2001

A GREAT read for ANYONE!
My neighbor has been a vegetarian. One day we were talking and he gave me his copy. I later bought my copy. It has VERY interesting information, all given in a calm, seemingly scientific manner. He enjoys a fact vs fiction style. He often describes "things people say" and then goes on to use what seems to be pretty factual stuff to present a good case for going vegetarian. Even though I have not ...

Internal Medicine On Call (LANGE On Call)6 reviews
Steven Haist, John Robbins, ...

McGraw-Hill Medical, 2005

Overall very good, how about a new edition?
I am an intern in IM at the University of Florida, Shands Hospital. I have been using this book since day 1. It has saved me many times and my patients as well. The book is excellent for making a differential diagnoses and I like the fact that it lists common problems encountered while on call. It's great to follow all the recommended steps and really learn as you go along. The best example is ...

Debugging Applications for Microsoft .NET and Microsoft Windows (Pro-Developer)11 reviews
John Robbins

Microsoft Press, 2003

A very useful discussion of Windows debugging practices
This book brings a vast amount of Windows-specific debugging information together in one place and has been very helpful to me. Some of this info could be found elsewhere, but only by sorting through dozens of documentation pages and magazine articles, some many years old, and additionally the author adds value by giving very explicit instructions (even providing source code) on how to do things ...

First Descents: In Search of Wild Rivers
Richard Bangs, John Yost, ...

Menasha Ridge Press, 2009

Dropping into the unknown on a rubber raft, hurled against rocks and cliff walls, only to round a blind bend, go vertical on a 10-foot standing wave, and flip over backwards into a deafening vat of near-freezing whitewater. Such is life for the brave souls who commit themselves to exploring the world?s untried rivers. First Descents collects the most enthralling tales from the world?s most respected river explorers. Vivid portrayals in the ...

Tragedy & Farce: How the American Media Sell Wars, Spin Elections, and Destroy Democracy10 reviews
John Nichols, Robert W. McChesney

New Press, 2006

A national disgrace
The war is a tragedy and the media coverage of the 2004 presidential election was a farce. That is part of what Nichols and McChesney are telling us in this very readable and important book. More saliently they warn that unless the media reassumes its responsibility to tell the truth about how our government operates and about what it is doing that it hides from us, there is a danger that our ...

Captain America's Wild Ride In The 70's
This 4th Captain America Essential collection has it all. From Werewolves to President Nixon, Cap takes on all comers. This book also includes the Nomad saga and The Falcon is right by Cap's side throughout. I have always liked the artwork of Sal Buscema and he pulls out all the stops during this run. Lots of fun and a great buy for only $11.55.

Sleeping Giant Has Awoken: The New Politics of Religion in the United States2 reviews

Continuum, 2008

Terribly crass title but a great book
Do not be fooled by the crassness of the title: "The Sleeping Giant Has Awoken" by Jeffrey Robbins and Neal Magee (editors) consists of a serious collection of scholarly essays on the influence of religion on U.S. politics. The book's sixteen contributors are academics who bring impressive research and analytical skills to their thoughtful work. By skillfully deconstructing various historical and ...

John Robbins

Microsoft Press, 2006

If you work in .Net 2.0 or higher - use this book!
I bought this book over a year ago, with about 8 other books, and had ignored it. I picked this off my shelf last week, while on a support call, and took it with me while on a short personal trip. I learned so much from this little book about the improvements in .Net 2.0 for debugging, and how to use the tools in visual studio - in extremely productive ways, I would recommend you buy this book ...
