I don't mind being a sheep in this case
It starts with a fart joke and just gets better from there. This book is a fun romp and I enjoyed the intricacies of the plot. It's clever and funny while maintaining the sense of urgency that drives the characters. All in all, a good read.

Special Forces, Clones, War and Betrayal
This book returns to the same universe as the excellent OLD MAN'S WAR. We follow the adventures of Special Forces (aka the Ghost Brigades) soldier, Jared Dirac who was created as a clone of Charles Boutin, a scientist and traitor to mankind. Boutin has gone over to one of the Colonial Defense Forces many enemies with enough information to cause no end of trouble. To try and find out what he's ...

Fun, light reading
This was a generally fun book. It is not designed to be read cover to cover, but picked at. It's lighthearted and I think it is pretty fair to the movies it covers. It also notes which movies (like Blade Runner) were very influential on those that followed. If you're a big science fiction fan, you probably won't learn too much that's new, but you'll learn some, and you'll have fun.

First Class First Contact Comedy
This is the first novel written by John Scalzi but it is not his first published work. It was written as a "training aid" in an effort to become a novelist. He offered it basically for free on the internet. Now, with the publication of subsequent novels, his first has been offered for sale as a real book you can pick up and read. It was a worthwhile venture. In short, it is hilarious. The ...

An excellent overview
I was looking for a well-written, intelligent overview of current knowledge on the solar system, and this book was exactly what I was looking for. The presentation is very clear, the writing quality is excellent, and the tone is exactly right for this kind of information: light, good use of humour, and not taking itself too seriously (John Scalzi has a quirky sense of humour . . . it works very ...

Stunning!
Stayed up late finishing "Zoe's Tale", and I'm too tired to write a long review. The bottom line: it's excellent - easily my favourite Scalzi work. Read "The Last Colony" first, so you can appreciate how well he handles the "same events, different perspective" approach. Five stars; now stop preening, John, and get back to work!
Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded

On September 13, 1998, John Scalzi sat down in front of his computer to write the first entry in his blog "Whatever" -- and changed the history of the Internet as we know it today. What, you're not swallowing that one? Okay, fine: He started writing the "Whatever" and amused about 15 people that first day. If that many. But he kept at it, for ten years and running. Now 40,000 people drop by on a daily basis to see what he's got to say. About ...

It's exactly what it says it is. And that's a good thing.
As you read through that other reviews here, you'll note, (as I did) that almost all the negative opinions are based on people not getting _what they thought_ they were getting. But hedging my bets, I got it from the library first. And then I immediately bought it. So, let's cut to the chase. It's a diary of Jane Sagan, it's 100 pages (small) with illustrations, and it's written like a ...

enthralling.
How often do you come across a book that you simply cannot put down? Well, you've found one with John Scalzi's book Old Man's War. And don't think this is only for sci-fi fans, 'cause it's not!! This book is one battle after another told from the soldier's point-of-view. I think you knew that by the title, but what you may not have known is that the elderly are recruited to solve the problems ...

He's Got To Be Kidding!
Even after I had closed this book on the satisfying last page, I had to think hard. There are a lot of adjectives one can use about this novel: audacious, funny, moving, wise and crazy. I had to give it 5 stars because I loved the characters and the mad twists of the plot kept me riveted. John Perry, hero of Old Man's War, is back in a human body, happily retired on an agricultural world as ...

Good writing about writing, and more besides
What do we have here? This book might look like advice to writers, but Scalzi isn't fooling anyone. It's better read as autobiography, as Scalzi on Scalzi. It's a book that's useful and interesting to anyone -- just as a book about a shipbuilder is interesting to more than just other shipbuilders. One of the themes of the book is that a professional writer should make money in different ...

Just as hilariously dumb as the original
I LOVE this book and I must disagree with the other reviewer that it isn't as good as the first Book of the Dumb. I mean where else can you read about the dumb things that Jewel, Michael Jackson, and Richard Simmons did, along with dumb things that regular people do every day from all around the world? This book will make you laugh out loud and I hope to see a Book of the Dumb 3 very soon ...

A must for after finishing Old Man's War
As soon as I completed Old Man's War, I went right online to pick up Questions for a Soldier. OMW was such a great read that when it was over I was left wanting more and couldn't wait to learn of what happens to John Perry. QfaS is a very short story- it takes all of 5-10 minutes to read to whole thing. That's right, ten minutes tops. Is it worth the price of admission? Absolutely! If you loved ...

Smart Buy!
This is a sensational collection of tales of stupid people, governments or decisions which span for one or two pages each. This easy to read format makes the book ideal to read as either a few stories at a time or from cover to cover. Dumb movie festival is an excellent inclusion in this collection as well where you get to actually read negative reviews by real publications and not just the ...
