What a great little book!
I really enjoyed this book by Andy Hill. Not until he realized his own successes and failures did he fully see all that he learned from coach Wooden. The foundational principles taught by coach Wooden are one's that we can all admire. "Make each day your masterpiece." Buy this book, then give it to a friend.

Wooden
I bought this book for my student/athlete son. I had him read the book and find five things that he could immediately apply to his life. The book is written in such a manner that the parallels between sports and life are seamlessly interwoven. By using sports as a platform of relativity, I feel I am raising my son to be a confident and responsible man. This is a must-read for fathers and sons.

Wooden on Leadership33 reviews
John Wooden

McGraw-Hill, 2005

John Wooden is the Real Deal!
The more I read about John Wooden, the more I admire him as a man, and a coach. WOW! This book is terrific, taking his simple (not easy) principles of life, basketball, and leadership and standing them up to let them take shape in the form of his stories from his coaching Days. Another great part of this book are the notes and examples from Coach Wooden's previous players and staff. Each ...

Beyond Success: The 15 Secrets to Effective Leadership and Life Based on Legendary Coach John Wooden's ...9 reviews

Perigee, 2006

Wooden's Way
I've always admired John Wooden's work as a leader of men. I have his Pyramid of Success on my office wall. Mr. Biro's work has brought the building bricks of the pyramid into focus for me. This a well written work that reaches far beyond the "self help" genre. It was very well organized, inspirational and motivating.

My Personal Best : Life Lessons from an All-American Journey16 reviews
John Wooden, Steve Jamison

McGraw-Hill, 2004

We need more John Woodens
I was raised in Southern California and now reside in Indiana. I could not be happier that Coach Wooden also called both places his home. Though he clearly is a midwesterner at heart---as am I now---his legend truly grew in Los Angeles. As my title indicates, we need more coaches like John Wooden here in 2008. Can you imagine what the current crop of college ballers would be like if they had a ...

Perfection Learning, 2003

Tried and True Journey to Success
As a Principal of an elementary school I gave this book to each of my teachers this Fall and we read the book together round-robin style. What an experience! Their enthusiasm has carried through the whole school as our students have all had discussions of the various blocks, the value of hard work and being a person of integrity whatever your path. We so appreciate that Coach Wooden put his ...

A Collection of Thoughts14 reviews

OUTSTANDING JOB!!!
This is a book I have had in my possession way too long unread. Time should be taken out in your busy life to read this book as I have finally done with no regrets!! You will experience so many emotions when reading this book as I have. `N-Word' educated me so very much, looking through his eyes gave me a much deeper understanding of so many situations that I would not have given a second ...

A Moment of Justice, a Lifetime of Vengeance12 reviews
John A. Wooden

Jbow Productions, 2005

A lynching and 15 faces
When I read "A Moment of Justice, A Lifetime of Vengeance" by John A. Wooden, I took flight from my surroundings and flew with the characters. The novel is a chilling and gripping murder mystery, set off by the murder of Alabama State Senator Robert Cowens, with shades of the old south woven throughout. It opens with the lynching of a Negro male, while 15 Caucasians, ages 15 to 21, celebrate as ...

The Essential Wooden7 reviews
John Wooden, Steve Jamison

McGraw-Hill, 2006

Quick read, gread value
Here is a book that is sure to inspire you. From the first pages it grips you, then keeps your attention until the very end. Wooden's philosophy emphasizes that sucess is not measured in "bottom-line" results -- such as games won, sales figures, or other analogous metrics -- but rather on reaching the maximum potential one can achieve -- either individually or as a team. The measure of this ...

The Heart of Success: Conversations with Notable Achievers13 reviews
Dan G. Tripps, John R. Wooden

BainBridgeBooks (PA), 2000

One of the best books I've come across!!!
When I begin to feel lazy and unfocused on my goals, I simply pick up my copy of The Heart of Success and I get an instant booster shot of motivation. That's quite a feat for an author to accomplish. Dr. Dan Tripps has the amazing ability to write a story in such a way that I feel like I really know the subjects of his interviews. They come across as real and open, and I literally feel like I'm ...

An Eye for a Deadly Eye Book Review by Keisha Matthews
An Eye for a Deadly Eye By John Wooden A Book Review by Keisha Matthews I was very excited to read this book! I had been awaiting its release since I had finished the first John Wooden book I had read, A Moment of Justice, A Lifetime of Vengeance. Both are Kenny Carson novels. Lute!: The Seasons of My Life11 reviews
Lute Olson, David Fisher

Thomas Dunne Books, 2006

Great Read By One of the Game's Best Coaches!
I just finished Lute! and thoroughly enjoyed what I read. Ironically, I finished the book a couple of days after the North Carolina Tar Heels (go Heels!) thrashed the Arizona Wildcats by 20 some odd points. Reckon this was payback for the times Arizona beat UNC in the March Madness Tournaments of years past. Among the topics covered in the book were: 1. Lute Olson's early childhood and ...

PowerTalk!: Professional Series (Powertalk!)8 reviews

Macmillan Audio, 1993

Stong Stuff
The content and pace of this interview is strong. I'm an accountant by profession and trade as a hobby; and the information contained in this interview blew me away. If you think you know what your doing in the financial markets you MUST expose yourself to this message. Failure to do is unquantifiable.

Practical Modern Basketball9 reviews
John R. Wooden

The Ronald Press Company, 1966

Could use an update
I have a ton of books on various aspects of coaching basketball, and this is by far the most comprehensive resource I own. I particularly appreciate Coach Wooden's attention to detail and his down-to-earth, methodical approach. I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were possible, just because this edition looks like it was run off on a photocopy machine, particularly the photos, but in terms of ...

Where the Game Matters Most: A Last Championship Season in Indiana High School Basketball11 reviews
William Gildea

Benchmark Press, 2001

Hard to Put Down
From the moment this book tips off to the ring of the final buzzer this is a great read. Gildea takes us on the court, in the locker room, and most importantly into the lives of young men who live for basketball in a state where basketball is sacred. Indiana is the perfect setting for this tale of one season and there is the dramatic aspect that this will be the last season where a "true" ...

They Call Me Coach22 reviews
John Wooden

McGraw-Hill, 2003

Inspiring glimpse into a master coach's life
John Wooden is perhaps America's greatest coach. His UCLA basketball team won ten national championships, including seven in a row. Concomitant with winning was his insistence on character and virtue rather than getting caught up with results. This autobiography is a fascinating glimpse into Wooden's extraordinary life. It chronicles his life as a player (many forget that Wooden was ...
