The Golem's Eye (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 2)144 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Disney-Hyperion, 2006

Wonderfully creative and absolutely humorous
To my pleasure, I have finally been able to read the next book in The Bartimaeus Trilogy. Sequels are often a disappointment, but The Golem's Eye succeeds where others have failed. In the last book, twelve-year-old Nathanial was forced from his parents and raised by a low-class wizard named Arthur Underwood, who treated the boy with distain. After secretly growing in knowledge--so not to be ...

The Amulet of Samarkand (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 1)347 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Disney-Hyperion, 2004

Very well written & highly enjoyable!
This book can be a little off-putting due to the brand of magic that it creates. It is definitely darker than some of the other popular series and I would be hesitant recommending it for younger children. However, for young adults (and adults of all ages), it is an extremely enjoyable story. What I most enjoyed was the incredibly dry wit of Bartimaeus, and while some have critiqued the ...

The Golem's Eye (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 2)1 review
Jonathan Stroud

Listening Library (Audio), 2009

Super adventure
This is the middle of an outstanding trilogy. The text by Mr Stroud is rich and funny but the voice acting by Simon Jones makes the whole experience outstanding. This is British humor with a British accent. Thank you

Buried Fire17 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Disney-Hyperion, 2004

Decent read
This book turned out to be about average. I found myself quite interested in the subject matter, and interested to learn about the mystery behind the "special powers" given to the main character. However, I felt like much of the story was never fully developed. I like all of Stroud's original concepts and ideas, but the book falls short because there just isn't enough depth to it. It's 330 ...

The Ring of Solomon: A Bartimaeus Novel
Jonathan Stroud

Hyperion Book CH, 2010

Bartimaeus, everyone?s favorite (wise-cracking) djinni, is back in book four of this best-selling series. As alluded to in the footnotes throughout the series, Bartimaeus has served hundreds of magicians during his 5,010 year career. Now, for the first time, fans will go back in time with the djinni, to Jerusalem and the court of King Solomon in 950s BC. Only in this adventure, it seems the great Bartimaeus has finally met his match. He?ll have ...

The Bartimaeus Trilogy Boxed Set39 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Disney-Hyperion, 2006

Incredible!
The Bartimaeus books are action packed fantasy novels whose main protagonists are a young wizard and his demon servant who he summons at the beginning of the first book to steal a magical amulet. The demon, whose name is Bartimaeus at first is not content with being the servant of a young boy but as the books go on you can see a bond forming between the two. The trilogy is masterfully ...

Heroes of the Valley16 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Hyperion Book CH, 2009

A nice, involved story.
Halli Sveisson is a member of the House of Svein, one of the twelve ruling houses in the valley each named for a long-dead hero. He's at a tough age right now (14) because he's too old to play with the children of his family's land and too young to do `manly' things; it doesn't help that he's very short, either. During the yearly Gathering, Halli witnesses an arbiter from another house kill ...

Ptolemy's Gate (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 3)23 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Miramax, 2007

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ
I finished this book about 30 minutes ago and the ending is so powerful I sort of needed to recover from it. This trilogy is amazing and so well told it should not be missed. When the main character encountered his boyhood art teacher and was shown what he had become I felt an intense sadness for him. In a sense the entire series leads to that one moment which then starts Nathaniel's ...

Ptolemy's Gate (The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Book 3)146 reviews
Jonathan Stroud

Disney-Hyperion, 2005

This book is the best of all three
In my review of the second book, I said "Sequels are often a disappointment, but The Golem's Eye succeeds where others have failed." That statement is even more fitting for this third and final installment. I will go so far as to say that this book is the best of all three. So far in the series, twelve-year-old Nathanial went from being raised by a petty and unloving wizard to defeating ...

Lost love rediscovered!
I love this recording. I listened to it for hours when I was little and now my son can too. My lp recording was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, so was thrilled to find it on CD. Mr. Karloff's voice is distinctivly captivating and the stories contain timeless wisdom.

A Great book for all Ages!
After a Girl losses her best friend. She is in shock. She believes that he was taken by people in the water. But once she starts to have dreams about him, she now really belives that he is still alive. This is a touching book that will make you cry all the way through. Even though the ending could have been more intresting, I rated it a 5 star because of how great the whole book is. Even if you ...

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! (did I mention I liked it?)
I have always preferred "real" books to audio books, until now that is. Simon Jones perfectly captures the characters in this book (especially Bartimaeus). The story is wonderful and well-written. My sons and I listened to the Amulet of Samarkand on tape and knew we had to have this one as well. I hope the third one comes soon!!!!!
